I despair of it... the AoS 3D Client 4.0.2a Patch21 has to be buggy. It places LAVA TILES where forest and beach transitions are supposed to be... wtf ?! why does he do that ? :cry: Any known solutions ?

thats a typical problem with the 2D client and 3D client. You have to change them to compatible tile.. no time atm to explain.. but use World Forge, and compare the Map tiles both with the 2D and 3D files.. you will understand I hope

Okay, i will have a look at this when dragon work is finished.
Erm, does that mean that 3D users need another Mapfile than 2D users ?
Or other Statics ?

my solution: don't use the 3d client.

i think the 2d looks much better anyhow. it gives me that warm fuzzy at home feeling.

Well that is definetly one way to solve it, have the 3D users download a seperate map that you have fixed the tiles on, since there are a few transitions that you simply cant use that are cmopatible with both clients.
It is not nessisarily a client issue, EA, OSI whoever responsible, simply didnt cross reference all the 3D tiles to 2D tiles.. so where there is a 2D tile, that 3D doesnt have, it will place lava tile, rather than some blackness.. so that is the client side of the issue...

Many areas though:
Cobblestone to grass;
Snow/Dirt coast bank tiles;
Jungle ( I think it is ) to grass, South transitions;
Some snow to grass, or all of them;
Some desert to forest tiles, I believe south and east sides;

theres probly a few more I forget, but thats somthing to keep an eye out for.
There are work arounds, like Cobblestone to grass... simply add a 2 tile wide strip of dirt between all cobblestone and grass.. so the transition is cobblestone to dirt, rather than grass.. etc..

Hmm... but why doesn't the client place these transitions right at the beginning? why do i have to modify the map to make it *3d compatible* ?
I mean, if they exist (the transitions, p.e. forest to jungle) why aren't they placed :?... they simply have to exist, otherwise osi +aos3d would be a great mess...
If they do exist, it should be possible to use wordforge to place the transitions manually, right? Well i really hope they exist :shock: otherwise it would be very ugly

Its not a matter of if they exist, they do exist.. we are talking about map tiles.
The problem, and the reason I said to compare the map tiles with World Forge, both in 2D and 3D directories entered (at different times).. You will see that some of the tiles.. the ones that show as Lava in 3D, are there in 2D files, but the 3D files dont have them. they did not recreate some map tiles in 3D, and is why I said, the 3D client will just place a default Lava tile when there is no tile graphic to the tile ID.
Snow/Dirt bank tiles, for instance, they did not make those for the 3D client, OSI used a standard complete snow bank (no dirt transition at all) for *nearly every snow bank in the map, so there was no need to make the set for 3D client.. there is only one spot on the OSI map with the snow/dirt bank tiles, and its a tiny spot.. the shrine at the Ice Island. They did make a few of the tiles for 3D, but not the entire set...
I guess they got lazy, and decided if the tile transitions were not really used, why bother making the match for 3D client.

And there is no way to fix this, than work around the problem by avoiding these transitions? :shock:

The workaround is we need to figure out which tiles they are and change all of the transitions to them and only them. It can be done. Most of us don't use the 3d client so there isn't a lot of drive to do it, as it is somewhat tedious.

Speaking of RANTS! j/k...

The 3d client got a 4 page letter of my loving words of praise sent to OSI and my complements to the wonderful artist who designed that wonderful....*barf!* work of *gag!* art *HURL!*

Other than all the emotes...3d was done by a 2 year old with a box of crayons.

Sorry but I have problems expressing myself...tend to hold things in and never express my true feelings, thus my shy and quiet demenor :wink:

One time I knew a developer working at EA who went by Krelin. This is back before Trammel came out, and I managed to find a bug that allowed you to own as many houses as you wanted (which, of course, was a big issue). In exchange for that knowledge, I was granted a unique skin tone (pale white, to be exact) and offered more rewards for further major faults that I could find. I also began conversing with Krelin via e-mail quite often (I have about 20 or so e-mails from him sitting in an old Hotmail account).

Then Trammel really did come out, and once it sank in what it was doing to the game, I sent my bud Krelin a nice, long e-mail. It was about 10 pages altogether, and most of it was French, if you know what I mean. He sent me back an e-mail that was as equally nice? it?s the only time I ever managed to get the attention of someone who worked at EA, even if it did no good.

Other than my good bud, Richard Garriott? I still talk to him, because I like him, and because he doesn?t like Trammel. He still hasn?t come through with a job for me, though, so I guess I should only call him an acquaintance. Oh well. Neat guy, anyway.
