Ok over the last year or so, I have been hearing people asking about buildings and such. So I have come up with an idea. Build a website that you can select and download various building templates. If you want a bank, you would go over to the page with several bank templates. Once there, you can review each bank template. And once you have found the one you want you can download it. This is the easy part. The hard part, how do you add the template to your custom world. I am designing a UOMerge program that will do just that. It will take the template, and a few user inputs. And bang, it will insert the template into your world. Nice and simple. So this sounds like a great project, right, good. Here is the fun part. To get this started, I need to start creating Templates. This is not as simple as it looks, especially alone. So what I would like to do, is put a team together that all they will do is create buildings. Lots and lots of buildings. You dont need to be skilled in scripting, because there is none. All you need is time, and a willing to build. You dont even have to figure out how I will gather the building. Or how I am going to get the pictures that will be on the website. All you need to do is build.

So if you are interested, just reply to the thread.

This is actually similiar to one that I came up with a while back, just a little different.
What I was going to do was have basically a set of statics files with just nothing but buildings in it, ready for extraction via UOCopy. A listing would go along with it saying what each building was designed for, it's coords for extraction and any other relevant info. You could use the supplied coords to extract and it would put it where it needs to be in your map, then you just have to freeze it. Your way sounds easier, but anyway you look at it, the building of all the houses and buildings is the time consuming part. As a way for people to "browse" the buildings, a generic map could be available (a blank map, with nothing but grass, zipped size: under 400k) so people could walk around inside. This would enhance any screenshots that would be posted.
I'm sure you've seen the mirror of UODesign I've put up. We could use a similar aspect in getting designs posted. Taking contributions and putting them up.

I thought up this way, since I'm no programmer, and providing just scp or wsc files would not really be a good solution since having to edit the x y z of those files is a pain, not to mention it limits what server it can be uses for.

Not to worry about where it gets hosted, as I can handle that part. That is easy. The hard part is getting at least a decent starter set of buildings together. One possible thought is to do some of the buildings in the UODesign site (the unique ones, at least).

I consider myself to be an expert at building design in UO, but that's because I've spent so many hundreds of hours doing it.

I love building buildings, that's the funest part of making a map to me. Kinda takes the fun out of it if a bunch of shards are using the same buildings, though.

Well I have the host machine here at home that I can setup with project. So that part would be the easy part. So over the weekend I will be setting this up.

Having a download of the building where they can walk through is a good idea, except if you have 100 building on the map. It could become confusing to the user. What I was thinking, is using the Multi structure. And each building can be stored in a multi format. So that the user can use inside UO to view the image. This would be alot easier and faster.

Having it as both would be best actually. I was even think of making them as templates for Xuri's Worldbuilder. As far as I am concerned, the more different formats, the better.

Ryandor can you do some templates
in uox format for xuri and I can do
some in sphere format. For something
like orb multi template manager.
I use it to turn multi buildings into items
and import them into sphere.

Do it however you want to. What ever format is easiest for you then go for it.
