Ok first off I will get the obvious out of the way, I am new to scripting and setting up a shard, so please excuse my ignorance
I've been trying to get rid of the buildings from the regular UO maps, all the ones in towns and such, I've got rid of most of the things inside of them but couldn't figure out how to get rid of them. I've tried the worldforge and can't figure it out, and today I used DragonSP, it got rid of the buildings, but also the shorelines and all the trees, ect. :? So what I'm needing to know is how can I first get the trees and shorelines back w/o the buildings, is there a way to do this? Is there a way to get the shorelines and trees back at all w/o redoing the shard? If so then how exactly, like I said, I'm very new to all this, and so far I've had trouble understanding a lot of the instructions w/these building tools, I need some help! I've been trying to figure this out all week now and can't seem to get it right, so anyone who might be able to help please do! Any advice or how to's on this, I just don't want the buildings, but I like most of the trees and definatly need the shorelines
Any help will be greatly apprecaited, Thanks in advance!

Hey Grimm, removing the houses from the normal map is actually not the easiest thing to do, especially if you're just starting out. But here's a few pointers to get you back on the right track.

First, if you don't know already, the map is stored in 3 files in your UO folder: map0.mul, statics0.mul, and staidx0.mul. The map0.mul has the basic land tiles of the map. When you ran DragonSP and it cleared all the buildings, trees, and shores, you were looking at a "bare" map0.mul.

What you need to get the trees and shores back is to restore the original OSI copies of statics0.mul and staidx0.mul. If you didn't back these files up it might be a pain to get them back without re-installing. You might be able to fish them off the cd tho, depending on which cd you have.

Once you have the original map files back, you should create a folder in your UO directory and name it "Original Files" and put a copy of those 3 files in it. This way you can always get 'em back.

Ok, to explain statics0.mul, that is the file that has the "statics" -- shorelines, trees, and building tiles. What you want to do is not simply CLEAR this file but take out certain elements (the buildings). The way to do this is with the Freeze/Unfreeze process. "Unfreeze" takes the objects that you choose OUT of statics0.mul, "Freeze" puts objects INTO it.

There are a few programs that can Freeze/Unfreeze areas, WorldForge being one, but you can also do it with RunUO. I recommend using RunUO to do it, especially if you are already using it as your server emulator. Basically it will let you target a (building-sized) rectangle on the map and unfreeze it for you. There are good tutorials on the freeze/unfreeze process both on this site and on the RunUO site so I won't go into it here unless you have specific questions.

Obviously you haven't picked the simplest beginner task, but it can be done. I should warn you that many of the floors of buildings on the UO map are actually "land" tiles contained in map0.mul, and therefore they won't be cleared along with the rest of your statics. Go check it out on the map you have right now... you'll see floors but no buildings.

I hope this helped and if you have more questions I'll try to teach what I know.

Or you can use RunUO, and in game use the command [unfreeze then target the bounding box of the area you want to melt, and your done ;)

*you have to run the RunUO server off its own set of UO files to do this though, but very easy to configure.

the Buildings ARE items. every building is made up tile by tile, each tile having a wall piece, or whatever to make up the entire thing.
You can not use the freeze commands with RunUO if you have RunUO and the UO folder (your client) using the same folder. ( both using the same map and statics files )
If you need help setting up the script and files to do this, feel free to ask for more info.

Because of that, I dont list any methods of contact here. But I suppose I could discuss some of these methods with you on msn. Post your contact info, and I will add you.
