Hi all,

Now that I am able to enter my map, I have some questions somemone might be able to answer:

1. The map has been sliced into four giant pieces rather than one. If I go to the northern section of the map, I find part of the southern map! Why would this have happened? (btw map is right size)...

2. If map1.mul is Ish, can it be replaced with a custom map also?

Thanks a lot,

-Anageth

1. perhaps that has got something to do with the map wrapping, wich shall simulate a "round" world.

2. map1.mul?

The map wrapping would be in your spheretables.scp. The default is for the map to wrap around (start over from the farthest eastern point to the farthest western point) at 5120. This allows for that "green acres/dungeon" area on the right side of your map.

I believe that's hard-coded, though... ?

Map1.mul is Felucca. Map2.mul is Ilshenar. Map3.mul is Malas. :)

Yes, you can customize Map2 and Map3. However, the sizes are odd on those maps. If you do a search on the forums, you should be able to find the sizes and instructions on how to customize those maps as well.

I just found this in a search:

Quote:
There is no way at this time that I know of to edit map3.

For map2, however, it is possible.
Using UOCopy, you can copy the map from a map2 to a map0 and vise versa. So you can either copy it to a map0 and edit with WorldForge and copy it back or:
Create a bmp the size of a map0. Use only the pixel dimensions of the map2 and leave the rest of the map blank. Run through Dragon, etc. Then copy to a map2 using UOCopy.

[FAQ] How to copy the Ilshenar Map to the Brittania map

That link is to another forum post, by Ryandor, which explains, in detail, how to work with the Ilshenar map. :)

Hope this helps.

EDIT: *cough* Actually, there's not technically a map1.mul....but, there are map1 dif files... ::shrug:: Map0, I assume, covers Trammel/Felucca then they skip right to map2 and map3. Shows how much attention I was paying to what I was saying....

Damn I hope not...but anyway, it's impossible. I have been exploring the map and it is totally weird. If I go to the far right, I see part of the left side of the map...but it's distorted...Ryandor can you help me out please??

*edit*

To see what I mean please look here: (this is what it looks like in game)

That image does look odd. Are you sure your map size is 6144 wide and 4096 high? I may be mistaken, but it looks, to me, like it's the other way around... ? That ant dungeon (a dif file) should be falling in your "dungeon/green acres" section.

If I'm wrong, just ignore me. *humble grin*

As for it showing all those sections in UOAM, at the farthest "zoom" position, it does normally show the world continuing around from one side to the other. However, it doesn't split the world (north to south) like it appears to be doing in your image you linked to.

::shrug:: Just tossing out ideas. I'm no expert, I admit, but you never know when something someone says might just be useful.

That image looks odd due to UO auto map. But I also think that map wrapping is in the client. The client makes sure you see the other side of the map, as well as the point where the black line comes (seperator between normal lands and dungeons). Should watch out with that as well.

I don't know about UOAM, haven't used it in ages. I do know that Sphere will wrap east/west at 5120. It does NOT wrap north/south.

it doesn't? That's weird. I think OSI does though o.o; And therefor the client should display it as well. Heh. I always thought sphere wrapped north/south as well.

Sphere wraps north/south and east/west. It doesn't do either extremely well, but it will do it. The best choice would be to have nothin but water at all sides to prevent anything looking weird. P.S. the wrapx setting in spheretables.scp is hardcoded in sphere or the client one, changing it there won't matter one bit.

Thrain, that map1 comment was an error on MY part. :)

There is no map1.mul listed in the UO files directory. Only map0.mul (which is, as you noted, both Trammel and Felucca), map2.mul (Ilshenar) and map3.mul (Malas).

Yes there is, using map extractor. You just build a map in your favorite image editing program, making sure that it would fit within the map 3 coordinates. Then Run Dragon, then run Map extractor. It copies map0.mul to map 2 or map 3. And it works. I've done it.

Oh yeah, it also copies your statics files.

As for editing the dif files, I don't know if that would work or not. Anybody know if any of the current programs can copy statics/map info from or too the dif files? You would, technically be able to make Trammel look different from Felucia then. I thought I saw a program a while back that edited a map using the dif files... *Goes to hunt it down*

*UPDATE*

Well, I found map editor 1.0, unfortunately the link is down, if anyone has a link to this or can send me the program some how, I would appreciate it.
So I didn't find a map editor that allows you to edit dif files per say. But...

What I did find was this: It's a little program simply called diff.exe. It says that it looks at your client mul files, then at your custom mul files then precedes to write the differences into the dif files. You can point it at a different directory to get the Client Files as well. It has the option to write diff files for Trammel, Fellucia, or Ilshnar. The only thing however, I would use this file for is making Fellucia and Trammel look completley different from each other. First I would back up my custom map0.mul which is currently in my UO folder. Build a new map, use Dragon etc.. etc.. then have it write the new dif files for Felucia or Trammel whichever I feel like changing, according to my custom map and statics files. :D
Since it will be completley different (except for parts that have water in the same locations) it should work... I'll test it out and if it does, I'll make a tutorial.

Thanks guys for the answer, but I found the problem with the 'wrap'. It was cos my dark area was on the left, I moved it to the right and so far so good:D

And a little quick question, how come the worldforge link stil doesn't work? Wasn't it fixed? You keep getting:

Thanks a lot,
