i heard on the sphere forums somebody made a 4 times bigger map for use on a Tolkien shard and it actually worked. Somebody please make a new prog or atleast a mod to dragon enabling custom size maps.

It's actually 4 standard size maps I'll bet, which you can do as is.

and yes it is impossible to use a custom sized map with the UO Client. Only two sizes to pick from; Brit or Ilshenar. that's it. But there's nothing from using several of the same sized maps, as long as each map doesn't exceed those sizes.

I'm sure that guy you mean has 4 times as much land and less water. Or he's left off the dungeon area not realizing he'd get a black line down the center yet. Or something.

The client.exe will flat out crash if it's not the exact size in pixels as the original, I just gave up trying to tell him that on there :)

Could you do that if you set the wrapx in spheretables to 6144?

I highly reccomend that you don't. You'll get a black line in-game where the dungeon border is supposed to be. There are other threads related to that. Do a search for "black line" and you'll find them.

Having 4 times the amount of land is quite easy once you study the Brit map. There is an awful lot of water in the brit map so making a map with no oceans would increase the land area well over 4 times I'd bet. The other technique is using multiple maps to create four maps of the same, standard size. I would warn you that it can take upwards of 3 to 6 months to get *one* decent map done. Making four is not even something I would do.

You say that making more than one map is possible, but how would you make them all "compatbile" ? ... lets say map0.mul is my main land ... and I decide to make a second map with only dongeons ? .... its not realy possible to do so... unless you run 2 different servers ... ?

Some emu's support multi maps. I think runuo does... not sure though.

RunUO does support all the map files (and duel facets for that matter), as does some versions of Sphere, as I understand it.
Yes, First thing, you would need to use an EMU that will support another map, besides Map0.mul.
Second, you would need to make your new map.. One thing though. Should you make one to replace Map2.mul, you need to be sure your new map is the same size as the Map2.mul
Third, you would need to use Dragon to make your new map.bmp, on a Map0.mul. sound like a long process? well, not even close to finished.
Then, you would have to use that map on the Map0.mul in game, to do your building, Since there is no program that I know of that will freeze your statics *.wsc files onto a Map2.mul (if ther is one, let me know, since i have yet to try to freeze onto one yet.)
Now then.. lets say you have completed the entire map on the map0.mul.. then you are ready to use UO Copy to simply copy the map from Map0.mul, to a new Map2.mul / statics2/staidx2.mul files :D

fun stuff ;)

** Its late here, I am sure i may have left stuff out, and possibly are some programs that i have not used to make things go smoother. If you can freeze to statics2/staidx2.mul, then that would make things easier, at least as far as i am concerned. Simply because you could put your new map/statics2 files in game right off, and work with out needing to hog the server with a map0 just to build on.

Does the client support multiple maps of the same size? If so, that's news to me.

You'd have to manually 'swap' the maps whenever walking onto a different map0.mul (or map2.mul)... Because the client (as far as I am aware) only supports map0.mul and map2.mul. You can't just create map3.mul and call it good.

So, in all reality, you are limited to only two maps, map0.mul and map2.mul. You can create more maps of the same size, but flipping between them is impossible from in-game.

There are a couple of EMU's that support more maps ingame, provided that they are either the size of a mpa0 or map2, provided the map0 and map2 are the defualt sizes. A map1 or map3 (for example) could be either size.

Could you explain better how can i load the map2.mul and the statics files!!!

I asked a question in the runuo forum but i wasnt given the right anwser, you know that in sphereserver you can have like multiple dimensions

xyz:0 is the original

then

xyz:1

xyz:... up to 255

They are called Map Planes.
I asked if this was possible in the runuo server but they didn't know atleast the ones that replyed :(

Could you please tell me if its possible that way i will have 2 maps
equal but i can change there aparence no statics, the statics are the same in both worlds, but i can have a dark side and a normal side :)

I don't know the specifics on exactly how it works, or that RunUO even supports it. I was actually refering to UOXjs. That's the one that I knew of. I don't actually use multiple maps, and I don't keep up to date on specifi server features.
Syd: I believe Krrios's client is required for true map3 support as well.

Oh, so I was right. I knew it. Go me. Yay.

(I couldn't see why EA would have support for a map never used)
