RunUO, Sphere, NOX, etc. Tell me why they are so good!

I vote RunUO...it is simple and fun to script and is overall the best...

Add another option: "None of the Above"

All the devs spend way too much time bashing each other when they could actually be making their emu's better. I'll quote myself:

The UO EMU community has not gone to hell. It is hell.

What about POL? In this time, POL is better than Nox, sphere or run UO. Definitely.
Maybe in one year, after runuo grows up, ther will be another king. But now it is pol.

Personally, I think all of the emulators have some sort of advantage to them. So the "best" is only a matter of opinion and desires of the individual. Some people would say Sphere because it's highly scriptable, some would say RunUO because it's easy to set up, and has all of the latest features readily available, others would say Pol because it's the most stable. I personally like UOXC because I find it the easiest to build homes on, I'm on the "dev team" if you can call it that. I personally think UOXC needs a lot of work but what Emu doesn't right?

Anywho. That's my 2 cents.

I agree with you Clay, I'd have to say that Sphere would be my fav. After all its been out for years. Still closed source, i know the code and its been fairly bug tested and reliable. I think these are key points when thinking of a server to host a shard on.

I'm really only familiar with Sphere, but I've heard Worm bitch about RunUO all the time...
But then again, the female bandits on Sphere sound oddly masculine when you spank them...

I beg to differ, Eladamri.

UOX was before fuse.

I've seen some nice shards done in POL. I'm told by those who use it that is the most flexible of all the emulators. Never ever even heard of a shard running on nox.

UOXC is the hands down best emulator in my opinion. Sure, it's not as flexible as RunUO or POL but it sure has the most tools for worldbuilding (Worldforge was first made for UOXC although there are new versions now) and is the easiest to use.

If I had to pick, I?d say POL, although the POL community sucks and their development teams reminds me of a cult. RunUO sucks more than anything I?ve ever seen (not a big fan of C#), Sphere was OK back when it was TUS, and I?ve never tried Nox. UOX was a noble idea, but not planned well enough. Sloppy code.

POL, is the best emulator on the market. The scripting is great enough to do almost anything, within the scripters capability. Mind you there aren't many escripters.

The best emulator of all though is the non existing Smallworld.

LOL, Ok.....now I feel the need to put in my 2 cents worth.....

I started playing around with emus quite some time ago......I found more bugs with Sphere than with UOXClassic......the other thing that turns me off with Sphere is that it is still "Closed Source".....

However, as a beginning programer I can appreciate the spectrum of the programing languages used in creating these emus. For instance, I can see the advantages of using c# and also the drawbacks.....I still think C++......is the better way to go but my mind may change as I get more and more programming experience......

What it comes down to, I feel, is this.....all the ppl involved in developement (weather emu, world, or website) deserves credit for all of there time and effort. (A lot of it unpaid.) So, if anyone out there is unhappy with the current emus.......try making one of your own.....as for me, I'm happy with UOXClassic....
