I've managed to pump out a respectable multimap.rle with the cartograph utility, but I'm curious about a certain issue.

Edit: Rereading this I don't think I was specific enough, here's a rewrite =)

This seems to happen regardless of the multipmap, but I haven't seen the issue on RunUO, and damned if I'll ask a question over there. I'd like help, not a flaming. =P

I can create the maps in world without a hitch. It even manages to zoom in somewhat for local and city maps. Cool, here's the issue. The map itself is always the size of the world map, so the local maps are getting somewhat stretched. I hope that's specific enough. If I'm doing something stupid just hit me and tell me what I should be doing. ;)

Seems I found a partial fix. First off the stretching issues seems to be RunUO. The mapitems are all being created with the same x,y dimensions. Fixing that made them look less like toddler art.

I still can't seem to get it to zoom in as much as I -think- it should... but then again it isn't a huge issue. If anybody has a fix for that second issue I'm all ears since I can't seem to find quite what I'm looking for searching around the 'net.

Otherwise thanks for reading this! *g* I'll say something new if I fix problem two. That wasn't supposed to rhyme...

I think all of that has to be the emulator? as far as I know (and honestly, I am just guessing), there is only one ?cartography? map for each world, which is zoomed in on for local ones. That is why you can make a map of arbitrary areas on the official servers (or could, many years ago when I last tried).

RunUO sucks because C# is a bad language to write a server in. I would say ?get a new emulator,? but there is not much better out there right now. *sigh*

*dies*

OSI uses one multimap.rle. If you are using the multimap.rle created by my cartography utility (unmodified), it may or may not have enough "detail" when the image is stretched.

That was really only a starter image, one could then modified.

However, if one can provide what aspects of the map don't stretch well, I can see about making it "thicker".

Detail isn't my issue, I know I need to add more *g*. I just thought I remembered the city map view on the first shards I was on seemed to be a closer view. It's probably bad memory.

As for C# being a poor choice for a server, the coders of the other emus must be pretty bloody awful considering how young RunUO is and the fact that I've had far more success and ease of use with it than any other emu I've tried. *g* I suppose it's that or the other ones are even worse. :) I like it well enough, but only because I seem to "get it" better than the rest.

But I'm not here for a good emu/ bad emu debate. I figure they're all pretty good for software that, for all intents and purposes, was never meant to exist. ;)

Ding ding. :-)

As for the maps, I agree, I thought they were bigger...
