 Post subject: Problem. need help.

I am just learning how to create maps for UO, I am following the tutorial for photoshop. I made a map with a simple 'E' shape in the middle of it with the dungeon area to the right, first of all I couldn?t convert the map in dragon because it said the file was the wrong size, the file is 23.8MB.
So I go into photoshop and increase the size of the canvas until it reached 24MB I am not sure if this cause the following problem. I could then convert the map with dragon and use dragonsp for statics, I then placed the files in my uo directory and started up either run-uo, sphere, or POL and the map would come up as a big mess with streaks of black, snow, black, ect, running from top to bottom on the map.
Can anyone help me solve the problem or problems I am faced with? :?:

Try making a new image that is exactly 6144 by 4096 pixels in 8-bit (indexed) color mode.

I do that and photoshopt makes a file 23.8MB, then I go to convert it and dragon says the filesize is to small.
I am using photoshop CS, perhaps it is the problem.

Use the template that Ryandor included in the Dragon zip, it will automatically create a map of the proper size then you can fill the water and dungeon areas in with the proper colors of which ever version your using.

Just save the file as a .bmp then convert it and it should work flawlessly.

Might be some weird thing that CS does. Bitmaps are a really horrible format? CS may not be saving the buffer on the edge of the image, which Dragon might expect (this should be an option in CS, if this is the case, though).

I am having the same problem. I followed the directions step by step and even spent 2 more hours customizing. My map turned out to be 1.5mb. It must be an option somewhere to fix this quirk because I downloaded Photoshop3.0Elements and had the same problem.

What is the bit size of the .bmp file when your saving it? 32?16? etc. Always do it at max and dragon will correct the problem.

OK i think i got the problem figured out.
If all else fails read the directions. When you "Save as" your map into a .BMP close to the bottom is a save options screen. you must check "save as copy" or the size of your map will not be 24k nor will your deminsions be present in the bmp. Good Luck.

Well the template in the dragon zip works, and so does the way Draxis pointed out.

Thanks all for the help now I can get on with the map. 8)
