I've looked at a few different sample maps. Most, thought not all, have a zone on right side dedicated to dungeons. Some maps even have it along the bottom of the map. It's shaded grey and has the dungeons carved out of it. I'm not sure of the standard name for this region.

How does Ulitma Online know when the ocean ends to transition to the ocean on the other side of the map? Is there a set size of the "dungeon zone" that must be used within the 6144x4096 map? Can I use the map fully by turning this area into more land and ocean?

Also, what is the proper color tile to use to create this area? It looks like a form of mountain, but I'm not sure if that is right. What height?

I deleted the entire zone and made it ocean in one of my maps. But I'd like to add back in a smaller dungeon zone. I figured I might as well maximize the use of my landmass. Thanks for your help!

There is a line that runs down 5119/5120 on the map0.mul it is hardcoded into the UO client. The rule with that is you cannot continue terrain from the left to the right. Otherwise you can do whatever you want there. Most people fill it with black and then build dungeons, like EA has done. The other alternative is like T2A. Build whatever landmass you want there, just border it off with mountains or some other impassable terrain (like stars). If you are using less than the rest of the map area for your main map, you can also border that off with impassable terrain and then use the surrounding area for dungeons or other small areas.

The map2 and 3 don't have any such restrictions that I am aware of. Although EA has chosen to section them off, I don't see any reason why you couldn't use the entire map area for 1 map.

Great info! Ok, so I cannot use the entire map (6144x4096) as ocean and expect to sail through it all. When I hit 5119/5120 I will flip to the other side. Correct?

Depending on the server emu you use, you will either hit a wall or wrap around to the other side of the map (like OSI).

Ok, I expect to wrap around like you do on OSI servers. I am using RunUO. How does this emulator handel the map limit? Does it wrap around?

I started work on a new map yesterday. I put back in the 5119/5120 break. I am also using the -5 Ocean to -5 water transition before I hit land at 0 height.
