Sounds more like the map file is the wrong size, that will cause it to crash.

You can put any valid tile on your map. Do bear in mind that there is a dividing line between 5119 and 5120 that is hardcoded into the client. Do not build anything that goes ACROSS that line.

If you are using Win XP, chances are that when you changed the map files they were 'read only'
When that happens, replacing the original files makes the newly added files almost non exsistant to XP. So it will basicly act as if they are not there, since 'read only' is attributed to the entire UO folder.

Try once, putting the folder as it was originally, reboot. Move the UO folder out of the Program Files folder, replace the map files, and then replace the UO folder back to its Program Files directory again. See if that helps anything at all.

No no draw. Just saying that the area from 0-5119 is not going to connect to the area at 5120-6044. So in effect that map is split in two. It is up to you if you want to use it for dungeons or just some small selfcontained maparea, but you cannot walk across that line in game.

Make sure your original bmp is saved in 256 color format, not 24-bit or any other kind of format. Also, the original bmp file should be exactly 24,578 KB, if it is any other size you will get problems (I had a problem where the map was the right size, but it was saving as a 24,577 KM file once.) Good luck. :)

The area stormcrow is talking about is.. well take a look at the regular Britania map. If you notice the Ocean water meets the Dungeon area. They use Water, then Black tile. where the Water stops, and the Dungeon area starts, the client has that one line that seperates that one long dividing area down the map, wether you want it there or not.

Even if you dont have this "world - Dungeon" divider, it will not efect the client to crash. The worst that will happen is you will get a black line running through your map.. if you have like grass going accross that line.

If you are using RunUO, check to see if there is a file called Crash ###.log (for example: "Crash 28-7-2004-12-21-38.log"). Open the log, and it may tell you what files are giving you problems. Also, you can try restoring from an old back up. Go to the Back Up folder, and in the "Automatic" folder should be some saves. Copy the contents of one of those folders and paste it into your "Saves" folder.

also when you go to start your server use the -debug comand line

this will show you exactly where and what file caused the crash

to do this just go to start
run

then type in your path eg. c:\uoserver\runuo\server.exe -debug

this is the best way to track down the problem.

but my money is on a map file size or type problem, but i also had a simaler occurance where my CharacterCreation.cs pointed my char to a non existant location, so thats also worth a look

The runUo server don't crash, it's my client who crash after the selection of the character.

make compleetly shure your map is 6144 x 4096 before running it through dragon if its so much as one pixel off your client will crash every time

hope this helps

and if wost comes to worst im shure we can figure out a way to send me the bitmap rar'ed up and ill take a look at it
