I am currently developing my own map. I am using the guides that ryan has stated. I have a simple problems with the mountainsa that i produce. The top of the mountains are flat and it doesnt seem natural.

Any suggestion would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Use a random brush for the tops. That will get mountains similiar to osi mountians. Or just continue with the contract/fill until there is nothing left to contract.
Let me know if you need further details.

Well what are you useing to make the map Adobe photoshop. if so
this is a ez way 1st you need to
chose the lowest Mountain color witch is 20 on the swatches. then
what you do is chose the next color up witch i think is 30.
you use your wand and click the Mountain area you just made with the 1st color then you go to select and pick modify then pick lowest on the list witch should be shrink or some word that is like that. then you type in the number of pixals witch should go in 1 for each color level. then you would
go to edit and click fill and chose forground color. witch shoul be the top color it should look gray. and get lighter gray as you go in. 1 pixal and you do this with each color of the Mountain colors. if you dont have adobe then i am sorry i cant say mouch but take your time and draw lightest color 1st and make a line of then next darkest color around it buy one pixal. untell you hit the 20 color or the darkest gray.

Well the only ez way other than what i said is to show you i guess.
Hum let me see ill do this as ez as i can okay.
1# do you use aim if you do i can walk you though it. my aim is SuperShaun24.

2# if not then i need you to tell me what you have and what your useing to make the map. Is it adobe PhotoShop 5.0 6.0 or 7.0.
i have 7.0 but i know how to use 6 as well there is not much differint.

3# If you are useing PhotoShop did you load all the new files to Adobe?
Like Map brushes. and so on.
from start to finsh okay.

4#I will atempt to explain a little better in here.

A = Open your map in adobe photoshop

b = Open the dragonmod 9 color table

c = You pick the rock color 20 witch is the darkest color you will see on the color table.

d = next you draw your Mountain on how you want it with the 20 rock color.

f = next you pick the next color to 20 witch is 30

g = look at your tool bar on the left, You will see a little wond type image.
it should be up at the top right hand side or left.

h = click it and then use that on the Mountain you just made with the rock color 20. you should see a doted line all around your Mountain. if you dont dc the Mountain untell you see it.

i = Then you go at the vary top and you should see a (((( Select ))))) you click that and you should see a list go down to modify and you should see a nother list You want to pick contrast witch means shrink.

j = When this happens you will see a screen pop up it will show a pixal 1 in the typeing area. you click okay on 1 pixal. Unless the doted line is one pixal away from your Mountain the type in 2 and hit ok.

k = Then you will go to edit on the edit list you will see fill. click that

l = it will ask you For forgorund color you click ok. and bamb you just colored in the Mountain with rock color 30 next would be 50 you just do that hole step over and over with each color going in 1 pixal and your set.

If you have any problems im me on aim

Dear Supershaun24,

I had already done all of the steps that you toldme. I followed the steps on Ryan's tutorial which is almost the same. I can get mountains that are increasing in elevation from 20 to 60. But the top of the mountain (60) is smooth. It doesnt seem like a mountain with scattered top. Thanks for your kind help. I am using Photoshop 6.0

okay Infinity here is what i do when they are flat

I start picking a bunch of different altitudes and paint randomly in the mountain to make peaks hope this helps

1. go from 20-60

2. paint randomly with 60-70 and you should have a mountan, I mean just do dabs all over ur mountain and they will turn into peaks and it will look like a peak mtn.

:shocked hope that helps
