Why start a fire when you can make entire suns go super nova! I just posted this on the Stratics forums and hope that one of those "Gods" from OSI/Origin/EA reads it before I'm banned from the site! (I woke up cranky what can I say?)

hmm It seems that OSI/Origin/EA keeps asking how to improve the game. Well here is a few suggestions that I think would make it vastly improved.

1. Customer Service. Nothing against the current GM's as some have been helpful but the majority seem to be totally at a loss. I've asked the simplest of questions in game just to wait on an email from GM number 4 (yes it took 4) after 24+ hours I got my response..."Newbie chat should return shortly". Of course it had returned 23 hours earlier...This is just 1 of many examples.
2. Obey your own rules. OSI/EA/Origin is good about making rules for in game and then they seem to apply them in a chaotic random pattern or not at all. Case in point? A marble workshop planted in Moonglow grave yard. What?s wrong with that? 3 people that I know of had their houses forcefully removed from the very same location. Get a new GM and *POOF!* "It is properly placed and shall remain" was their response. Obviously they never read their own rules, the houses was less than 5 tiles from the crypt behind it, not to mention the "FACT" is was put in black and white that "ANY" house placed in Graveyards would be removed along with those placed on crop fields and blocking roads, so much for housing rules I guess. *Starts piling books to exploit the uneven terrain house placement bug*
3. New content. I saw that they are working on making new 2d graphics, this is fantastic and it is about 5 years overdue.
4. New expansions to the map...good grief...Before spending 1000 man hours to make a new world try making the ones we have now worth visiting. Fel rules and map are so buggy and lame that it?s not even worth visiting and I lived there for 3 years before being forced to move to Trammel by the massive spawn on my doorstep. Malas? *yawns and goes back to sleep*. Ilshenar? so..so..Trammel? About as much fun after 7 years as getting a hair cut.
My advice? Work with what you have and stop wasting our time with new worlds of "NOTHING" new...If you really want to grab the gaming world by the acorns then expand UO into the Sci-fi realm. Cant do that because it will ruin the flavor of the original UO? That?s been dead for about umm lets see...3 expansions!
UO was and in some small way, still is the best game online but its clinging on by a thread anymore which is really sad. Either take it off life support or give it new life because the "Community" is getting tired of taking all your pills and their getting harder to swallow. You want proof that I'm right? Visit my house on Sonoma and see all the vacant spots that "STILL" remain unfilled. When a spot large enough for an 18x18 comes open and no one takes it...your game is dead.
Want some suggestions on how to make it better? Visit the forums of some of the EMU (umm bad word) sites and listen to why the players got mad enough to leave and start their own worlds. Join some of the Offline shards and look at the killer worlds that they have created. How they have used the small amount of resources given them from the original files and created things that are beyond anyone's wildest dreams. Not to mention they are actually fun to play on, the GM's actually show up at the calls and solve problems and all the anti social people are banned from the shard!

I think that pretty much sums up how we all feel.

And Cal, you can count on EA to screw up pretty much anything they get thier hands on. I remember when they used to be a good company. I think it was around when the Commodore 64 was a popular computer.

All I have to say is "wow"

I'm at a loss to see how you guys stayed on osi that long, hell, I didn't even make it to the end of my 30 day trial. I've been playing on UO free shards for about 5 years now. No real point to my rambling, just... "wow"

a really really REALLY long time ago (back when UO was quite new) I got my 30 day trial. I finished it, loved it but unfortunatly didnt have to money for the monthly cost. Neither did I have a creditcard. Though, after playing on free shards (some of them are much better then OSI) I never really felt the urge to go back to pay to play. Yay for free shards.

only thing that i prefered with osi over emu shards is the population ammount, too many small shards have very few players

Population was is a dilemma-subject. On one hand a large population is nice to have, and lots of teams to run around with. But on the other hand, this also brings more problems. There's always idiots among the crowd who try to ruin the game for everybody (but that's also in small populated shards). Though the main irritating thing is the "OMG NO THAT WAS MY MONSTER U NOOB", "OMFG LOOTER" and more things like that which just got on my nerve after a while. Next to it fucking up the whole economy (with just a few crafts skills like OSI has, about 1/4th of the whole population was blacksmith.

I got my warning letter from Stratics... Seems they dont like the word EMU (which for those who have been around long enough to remember....they used to host! Capella's FUSE Forever BABY!) Its sort of sad though since I read the news that the OSI offices in Texas will be closing, thats never a good sign for any game. Lets prey that the game we love to hate does not wink from existance...lest we follow...

Out of respect for the original creators and for those who try to keep it alive I bow my head in a moment of silence. 100+ Of OSI/EA/Origin's people have to uproot their lives or lose their jobs all to keep us playing in the wonderous world we hold so dear. Without these people we would not even be having this chat. My prayers go with you all as well as Ryandor our gracious host for this forum. :(

I know most of you follow the RUNUO forums as well but just in case you don't, here is a link to the "OTHER" side of some of the conversation...

DOH!
I love the way you gave Phantom a good drubbing. He really is an idiot.
Yeah, just because they can make millions doesn't mean all the bad things are not true, it's irrelevant, but let's change the subject. LOL.
