RY, and others, personal opinion, I am making a map that has more islands than actual large landmass.....mostly because i think the way the portray the importnace of baots in uo is stupid boats were life back then. Plus i just think it will be fun...

So what is the best way in photoshop to portray an island....

i just do -5 water up to 0,2,5 sand, then into jungle.....does this sound correct or realistic, generally with mountains aswell, sharp and steep..

thanks!

Really it's not that different than any other type of landscape. It depends on what you're going for..

Example would be is you are looking to make a semi-tropical, then yes, the sand coastline, with jungles and steel mountain would be good. (Or even skip the mountains)

Or if it's a more temperate climate, you could do grass coasts with forests.

It's really up to you how you want to do it. Play around and see what works best. Also, do a image search on google to se what comes up. I'd bet you'll find lots of inspiration.

your such a smart cat..... and wow answered my post so fast...

Well the reason i make the map is not because im a part of the pirate fad thats the pirates of the carribean movie started but love pirates because of "the dread pirate roberts" from the princess bride....how cheesy eh? SO this map is going to be 3 cultures a royal group, one other (undecided) and pirates.....

should be fun ;P

:You're the Dread Pirate Roberts, admit it!
:With pride. What can I do for you?
:You can die slowly, cut into a thousand pieces!
:Tsk, tsk. That's hardly complementary Highness. Why loose your venom on me?
:You killed my love.
:It's possible. I kill a lot of people.

:I do not mean to pry, but you don't by any chance happen to have six fingers on your right hand?
:Do you always begin conversations this way?
:My father was slaughtered by a six fingered man.

:Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me!

:You only think I guessed wrong - that's what's so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha-ha, you fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia", but only slightly less well known is this: "Never go in against a Sicilian, when *death* is on the line!". Hahahahahah!
