 Post subject: Maptrans problem?
PostPosted: Thu Jul 10, 2003 11:08 am
Greetings. We're running into a problem with the maptrans.txt file not being able to be opened.

Filling in the fields, we pointed to the correct bmp and map0.mul files and left the fix file blank as suggested. After clicking on 'start' we ran into the problem listed above. We checked and the file does exist...

I've checked the forums and I didn't see anything close to this problem being mentioned, so I've probably missed something somewhere. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

First, I'll assume that you don't have any spaces in the path.
Second, what version of Dragon are you using? 1.05? or 1.03.62?
If it's 1.05, then you'll need to use the maptrans105.txt file. Rename it to maptrans.txt and that should work. The reason is that it is a slightly different format, than the one for 1.03.62.

If that's not it, then I'm really not sure what the problem would be.

Also, while I'm thinking of it. I didn't update the maptrans105.txt for the mod 9.1. If your using that, then you should correct it. (Compare the maptrans.txt to see the changes. It should be pretty clear how it's different.)

Yes, we did have spaces in the path and that's been corrected. Not sure what you mean by version of Dragon being 1.03 or 1.05. We're using Dragon Mod 9.

We also tried the renaming of the maptrans.txt file and that didn't work either.

Okay....I redownloaded the Dragon Mod 9 and the plus pack for it. I don't have dragon on my c drive. Would that be a problem? It's on my d drive. I don't have any spaces in my path. I again tried the renaming of the maptrans105 to maptrans...and it still says it can't open that file. What am I doing wrong? I really hope you can help me with this.

I had problems with dragon last night after I updated it to mod 9+ (mine is on d: as well)......anyways, I had to take the space out of the very end of the file called "rgrass2swamp".......and then, I had to fix the statbetweentrans file at the end where it said cave2blackRalls and switched the R to a W for Walls.........lol

Anyways, I realize that you might not have had the same problem but it is kinda on the subject, I felt. Hopefully this info will help someone.

(just an fyi....I was getting error messages something like....err integer 000.....and something like.....can't find cave2blackRalls.)

*blinks and boggles* Okay...I change the R to a W as you suggested. And I didn't see a space at the end of the other. The error I get is cannot open the maptrans.txt file. I tried it on c drive too and it still gives me that error.

Exactly what error? Try replacing the maptrans file.

I tried remaning maptrans105.txt to maptrans.txt again...and it still gives me the same error as when I use the original maptrans.txt. The error reads: Cannot open file D:\DragonMod9\scripts\maptrans.txt

When I look in my DragonMod9 folder where I extracted the zip file. I do not see a scripts folder in there. Is there something more I am suppose to have downloaded? I am at a total loss on this and I am sorry if I am sounding stupid. I am trying my hardest to learn this.

Yes no scripts folder would be a big problem. Among other things the maptrans.txt file is located there. I don't understand how you are trying to rename the file if it doesn't exist. I don't know which download you used but if I remember correctly the 1.62 beta from UOCM only contained the executeable. Most others had full files. All of Ryan's mods contain full files as well. The only other thing I can think of if you downloaded a full distribution is that you did not preserve the file paths when you unzipped it, resulting in everything being unzipped into the root of whatever folder you used.

Okay...I am feeling really stupid here. Is there anything else I need besides the file that I just downloaded from you DeadWorm? I know I have to be doing something wrong and I can't seem to find a help file on the steps to install this. Is this mod the only program I need? Cuz I am still getting the same error.

No...I don't see a script folder. I doubleclicked the zip file and extracted it into D:DragonMod9 folder

are you clicking and draging the files from winzip to the directory or clicking extract, if your clicking and dragging then use winzips extract to preserve the directories

Something is really odd here. I am using the extract button and picking the folder where I want it extracted. Are there suppose to be folders in the zip file? Cuz when I look at it when I doubleclick on it....I don't see any folders...just files. I wish I could figure out what I am doing wrong. I feel like a complete idiot here.

Let this be a lesson that you make sure all your files you use are set properly.

The problem was that the Use Folder Names box was not checked on the WinZip extract window. That was the problem.

I suppose that I should have made that clearer in the readme file. You must use folder names, whether you let WinZip do it, or you go back and do it manually.

Hopefully everything works now.
