I've heard of people making nearly exact copies of the current Britania map, I was wondering if anyone know's where I can get one, You see I want to just Make Britania better, ie add some Island modify it as i wish, using Dragon. And that way I can use the current static files and not have to add al the towns and everything in myself.

SO yeah any one got the Oginal Britannia map as bmp? I've heard their around and I saw it somewhere when I first was leanring how to use Dragon, I'd really like to get my hands on one so thanks In advance people.

I have it around somewhere, but the bmp isn't exactly the britania map. it's cut down for dragon and processes none too well. More than likely the file was generated with the map2bmp function in dragon, which I don't really trust.

The best way I can see going about editing the map depends on how much you want to edit it.

If you're only doing minor work (like adding a cave entrance or making a road fork to another direction), use WorldForge alone.

If you want to add new islands, create the islands in dragon seperately, you can then use worldforge (Version 6X) to transfer your newly created map with the island in to the osi map wherever you want.

If you want to edit vast landscapes of already existing osi map use only small sections of the osi_map.bmp, edit them accordingly and just transfer those sections over. and clean up with Worldforge. Or you could use TSMC.

Hopefully with all three of the above, you should be able to compile a single map, from a few others.

These are just my techniques I've developed on the way of my building history, so there's always others who may help. :D

Hmmm I want to just add Islands and new Dungeons and stuff like that, I don't want to use Worldforge at all for this, I know people have some really nearly perfect copies of the OSI map, considering It's the items that really give it away.

So please someone give me a link to the file or something.

Thanks in advance.

If you want to just replace some dungeons, or add an island to the britain map, you can do this a couple ways. You can cut out an area in the dungeon region using UO Map Copy, or, UO Copy i believe will also Cut areas. Then you can use Dragon to generate your new Dungeon as you made it from a .bmp to a blank set of *.mul files, then simply use UO Map Copy or, UO Copy again, to paste that new dungeon in that area.
But, as far as a complete *.bmp of the entire Britain map, I really doubt anyone had this. Simply put, the Britain map has way too many different map tiles, altitudes, and all that for Dragon's mod/pallete to handel. It would take Well over the 256 colors it handles to create the true Britain map.

Ry posted a complete set of raw images along with the color table for use with TSMC that will produce an *EXACT* copy of the original map. Looks somewhere on this forum for a file that's like 15MB or so in a post with very poor description heh.

I managed to download that file and compile it with tsmc early this morning. I didn't test it in-game (it was 5:00a, I was tired), but I assume it worked as well as reconstructing the osi map ever will..
