I have seen this on one other map - the only solution they came up with was to delete and reinstall dragon - I installed several versions of dragon - mod 9 seems to be the only one that works well for me.

Good luck

All versions of Dragon stop half way through? There are version 9+plus and Mod 11 that are the best of them all and I would only recommend working with those.

It sounds like a file is missing, what types of terrain are around the areas that it freezes up on, are they different than what is on the other side?

If it is a file it will give you a warning in the compile box, check this and post the message that Dragon gives. If there is none then I would recommend actually deleting that entire download of Dragon since it may have gotten corrupted during download and try a new clean version.

128 megs ouch. It should still compile if you close everything but explorer and systray from the task manager.

What OS is the P4 running? With a 2.8 and 1gb of RAM you should be able to compile even with a lot of stuff running in the background.

The map is Ry's testmap from mod9 I believe.
Hmmmm
Try using the newer (1.5) core? I used it with mod11 but Ry also did a 1.5 maptrans with mod9 I think. You need to rename it and switch the dragon.exe
I haven't seen this problem in a while, but usually it happens from lack of memory.

Ok...why is the Ilshenar map showing on the same screen as your test map? I think you problem is most likely that your file is being placed over something it should not be or is trying to be placed over something it is not supposed to be.

Also if your map is being used by "ANY" other program while your trying to compile it then that is your problem. Nothing can be using that map while it is being compiled. If you try using the EMU, UOAM, or a GM command console like that showing in your pic then it will not compile the map because your trying to write to the same program your reading.

When you compile a map you must close "EVERYTHING" and run nothing other than Dragon. Once the map is compiled and Dragon SP are done go into the destination folder and you simply copy "ALL" of the files that it created and place them directly in the UO folder. Then start your EMU program and log in. Its that simple.

ok when i converted the map.. i used Empty text files renamed to map0.mul, statics0.mull, and staidx0.mul. (names may not be right) and nothing Other than Explorer and systray where running other than dragon.. also i dunno how i am overwriting anything.. i just taking those three things outta the dragon folder and copying to the uo fodler and loading axis to check the map.. also i did the convert without using any files.. just had dragon make them.. still no go

You dont need empty files of any kind, Dragon creates these for you automatically.

Just convert with Dragon then run Dragon SP then copy and paste to your UO folder. Do not stop to look at it during the process.

Double check the paths in Dragon to make sure your not sending it to the UO folder and keep overwritting it with trash files, I still find it disturbing that the Ilshenar map is appearing on your world map0.mul.

Check your map size as well, if it is not "exact" it will cause all sorts of problems as will trying to create the landmass in the area between the dungeon and main map area.

7.0 Photoshop is not the problem since I use the same program for mine.

Photoshop step by step

1. Open the program
2. use Ryandors map template to make sure its the correct size (actions file)
3. Set the water and dungeon area which should be part of the action files.
4. Make the map.
5. Select "Save" in Photoshop and make sure the format is .bmp and that "Copy" is checked.
6. In the next window after save make sure it says "Windows OS" and "8 Bit" are selected. (Should be default)

Close Photoshop because now your .bmp is done.

Open Dragon and follow these steps. (I use 9+plus which is version 1.03.62)

1. Top row of Dragon "BMP File" make sure that your path is set to the file you wish to compile into your map.
2. Second row is the "Fix File" which is not used.
3. Third row is "Output Map File", make sure this is pointing to a folder "other than" the UO folder and name the file "map0.mul" then click "Ok".
4. Click on the "Configure" button on the bottom right and make sure that "Remove Static Files", "High Priority" and "Sphere Statics" are selected. Select "Ok"
5. Click "Start" and wait.....(this is the important part) If you think its stuck do "NOT" touch anything, simply jiggle the mouse which will normally cause the memory to refresh on your computer and help nudge it along. This step will seem to take forever on slower computers with 128megs of ram, wait....

After this step is complete "close" Dragon and open DragonSP.exe and perform the following.

1. First line wants to know where the dragon program is going to place the information that Dragon generated in the last step so direct it to the same folder as you placed the map0.mul file.
2. Same thing as #1
3. Select the button that says "All" in the middle left of the screen, they should all be highlighted in grey.
4. Click "Start" and again.....wait.....

Once the program is done you simply go to where you told Dragon to create the files and copy the following files to your UO folder to "Overwrite" your old files or rename them and make backups but do "NOT" create blanks called by the same names then try to overwrite those....

map0.mul
staidx0.mul
statics0.mul

Thats it, your map is done. If it has errors then the files are missing or corrupt and you need to totally remove the install from your system and get a fresh copy from the download section of Ryandors.

No having a section for dungeons is not required but if you wanna take the dungeons out on your map your going to have to adjust the scripts in runuo (or whatever emulator you run on) so that your character doesnt get trapped. As for your UO problem. Format your hard drive and reinstall it. If it doesnt work get a new computer.

ummm thats not exactly the most helpful advice.. its not like its one compuer this isn't working on its 5.. and it works with fine with Samuri Empires.. but not AOS.. and right now i can't find my install disc for T2a otherwise i would check that.. and axis is placing a picture of a dungeon on the map(see url).. bit if u go to that spot.. theres nothing.. so as far as i can tell i got it to work.. so i am happy as hell. this has been a long time..
Current SEtup that works well KINDA is.
Uo:SE
Sphere: 56R4.0.2
Client: 2.0.3 OR 3.0.0c
Dragon: 1.05.00pr6
Photoshop 7.0
with this u can log on walk around do anything normal.. so now to fine tune the map.. or see if it works with T2a... if anyone wants i can mail u the bmp and u can try to convert it my issues still seems that the bmp and map files are still to large.. but they work with Uo:SE.. so i dunno
heres a peek http://mechman.crandd.com/newest.jpg
