Why dragon don't use a 24bit bitmap ? I think 16kk of colors should solve any kind of problem with tiles and altitudes. We could have 256? spaces for tileid and altitude much more flexible.(from -128 to 127). The only "problem" is that the bitmap would jump from 24mb, to 75mb of size. Another question, is dragon a open source project ? |

First, Dragon is not open source. It was created by Darus and the source code is not available at this time to my knowledge. Second, making Dragon 24-bit would be quite an undertaking as far as transitions would go. Which brings me to the point of SMC and TBC. These are essentially what you are asking. They use a true-color file plus a 256 greyscale file and combine it into a map. Every sinlge tile can have it's own color. The the second file has every elevation from -127 to 127. The drawback is that it doesn't do any translations or item placement like Dragon does. I'll be writing a tutorial on how to use this in the near future, so stay tuned. -Ryandor |

I really should upload those again. If I had any sort of following, I might be more inclined to write transition/item placement support. |

Actually, Sydius, I was going to ask you to at least put up the latest version. I seem to have lost the newest one. And a transition maker would be wonderful, and you can tell you do have quite a following, considering that the programs are not even currently available. ![]() -Ryandor |

A transition maker could improve such a potentially great program 100%. So yah I definitely back you in it. (especially since its so easy, not like i do any of the work ![]() |

I don't think there are enough people playing UO to even muster the support my ego would need to justify the hour and half I might spend on such a project. |

Ohhhh ![]() An hour & half is all it would take you? My maps going to take much much longer then that to build. Would you please reconsider? BTW there are lots of people still playing UO. Perhaps even one of the biggest player run mmrpg's out there. Its not like were talking about a mud or something. |

So I finally add not only transition support, but also item placing. What?s the net result? 7 downloads ? 2 of which are mine, 2 of which are Ryandor?s. That leaves a whopping 3 downloads. Woo. Yeah. Such enthusiastic backing really brings tears to my eyes!!! YOU GUYS LOVE ME! YOU REALLY LOVE ME! |

As you have so well pointed out in the past, there's no real incentive to doing any of this. You've said on many occations that you only code for the money and/or the ego trip. So what's different about me not actually getting off my ass and writing a tutorial? Well, the same reason that you don't have anything to do with UO, and then months later show up again and start haunting my forums. ![]() This is, after all, just a hobby, and I'm sure that if out of the blue, I pulled the site down, and disappeared, people would be upset, but they would understand that this doesn't make me any money, and things like real life take priority over this. In the grand sceme of things, this really isn't the be all end all. I run this site, and I help out because I enjoy it. I don't see any deadlines or anyone saying "I must do this". People that come to the site on a regular basic know that I'm not exactly the most motivated and prompt person to get anything done. It's just a fact that people have to deal with. ![]() -Ryandor |
