For Kingdom Reborn, we wanted the terrain to look more natural and blend smoothly from one type to another. We use several layers of textures to produce large areas of the same terrain, without obvious, distracting repeats. Since we did this with larger, blending textures rather than individual tiles, KR has no need for the terrain variants or transitional edge tiles.

Read the Five on Friday on Stratics for more details. =P

Yeah, thats interesting stuff there.. curious to see how this turns out. EA has done some decent stuff finally. Things we have all wished about over the years.. I have started getting interested again, for that matter. I guess one question remains to it all..
Is it too late, though?

So far I am unimpressed.

The new client is just...weird. I can't seem to get used to it.

I feel like I'm playing "Diablo 2" or a bad "Titans Quest"

I actually like it somewhat, but there is so many missing mechanical systems, I have to keep popping back into 2d client to do things.... then pop back to KR

It takes far less than that, to make fun of me. (or to feel superior) 8)

Sorry Xuri

I've been told there was a list of preq. to get in....

1. Certain amount of time as a paid player
2. Former Volunteers (Councilors, etc) were automatic

Those were the top 2, not that I could verify the first. But, my email did say since I had served as a Councilor I was greatfully accepted for time donated to insuring Ultimas success. Pffft ... insured success made me laugh to, so :P

99 months as a paid player doesn't count for anything? =P

Welcome to the KR Beta!

Coming tomorrow from our friends at Fileplanet, you can download the beta version of Ultima Online Kingdom Reborn. Once downloaded and installed, you can log into your home shard with your regular account and start playing with your regular characters.

We hope you enjoy the new features and graphics. We aren’t done yet, but with your help, we’ll be able to make the new client everything you want it to be.

Keep in mind a few things:

This is a beta test and we are still adding features, fixing bugs, and making improvements. We recommend playing on TC1 or TC4, to get used to the new UI, before playing on your home shard.

We need to you to find bugs. If you find a bug, just click on “main menu” (a button on the right hand side of the hot bar) and you’ll see the button for the bug report form. Open the form, click on the kind of bug you’re reporting, and add a few words of description. Your report will go directly to our QA team. Bugs can be anything from something minor (like a missing piece of art that shows up as a pink box) to a crash bug.

You can also use the Feedback form to deliver suggestions.

The NDA is officially lifted. That means you can post on message boards about it. Tell your friends about it. Have your family jump in and play. Take it to the neighbors and have them take a look.

Thanks for taking part in the test, and thanks for all your great input.

See you in Britannia!

The UO Team
