Post subject: | I need a name for a game |
Alright, before I make my RPG, I have decided to make a ?warm up game? of some kind? I was thinking first-person shooter, but decided against that idea because I cannot think of any easy way to make it unique and fun in a reasonable amount of time (basically, too many of them already). So I have decided to clone another game that there is way more of, but is far easier to make unique ? the standard space-ship shooting-aliens kind of game. I chose this kind of game because I am decent at making 3D spaceship models and a great deal better at it than I am at making plants and characters for a FPS. It will be fully 3D still, but with movement only along two of the axis. I have not decided if it will be the usual variety, where it is basically a top-down view of your ship flying up (or to the side, in some implementations), with the two axis being the X and Y, with no movement along the Z, or if I will try for a ?Star Fox? like system, where you can move along the X and Y, with Z being time-based constant movement. I am leaning towards the second approach, just to be a little bit different than most clones. The setting is likely to be a mix of space and planetary settings, and it will be level-based, with some big end-level bosses (not every level, though). I also want a ?free for all? score-based mode, where a player can compete for an entry on a high-score table (always fun with family and friends), in which case you pick the setting and difficult, and it just gets harder and harder until you die. I need a name? any suggestions? |

a name for a game that never begins nor does it ends. What shall be the name for the never ending game that will end before it begins? Sydius: Of the little i saw you seem to 'start' over and over again various projects with no result whatsoever, what happened to the UO emulator? ![]() No offense meant , i just find it funny.. hehe |

Umm I have more software from Syd than I have seen from you. At least Syd has actually contributed something to the UO Community. We all have plans that we would like to work on but sometimes real life gets in the way. It is also very hard to be motivated to work on something when we know in the end it will be used by people who mock those who did all the work (Been there done that). So...in rebutal to your comment...its easy to make fun of those who never finish...if your one who never starts.... Dev |

dev: I have lots of work to show off for.. the concept was not software or whatever.. the concept was finishing what you start.. which is a feeling i didn't get from sydius.. as he said 17 times starting an UO emulator ![]() I do not say he hasn't done anything , i do not make fun of his software... all i made fun was of his 'starting routine'.. thats all hehe which is more than enough funny ![]() |

Who said I am still not working on it? I happen to have a huge number of projects going at any given time, and I frequently jump back and forth between them whenever the inclination enters my mind. I get bored working on the same thing for any real amount of time. After all, I get nothing out of this except the enjoyment of programming, which I enjoy more with a lot of variety. The vast majority of my ?useful? programs are ones that took just a couple of hours to begin and complete. I made them not for my enjoyment, but for others, and it took quite a bit of motivation to pound out the very small utilities I have managed to finish. A good many more ?for the community? are still sitting on my hard drive, half finished. Why do I not finish them? Because I am a greedy, self-centered little prick who cares more about enjoying himself than helping others. ![]() Given enough free time, I would indeed finish even the most grueling-to-develop projects I have started, but I am lucky to find 4 or 5 hours a week in which I can program, and I will be damned if I am going to spend that time programming something that I do not enjoy programming. Right now, what I enjoy making, are games, even if only half-finished. Like a fat girl eating a donut, I am aware of my weakness, and I will be the first to laugh at it, but do not make me sit on you. ![]() |

I suppose it does not really need a story. A story might get in the way of fun in a game as simple as this one. Keeping it as simple as ?shoot the evil aliens until you get a high score and beat the last level? might be the best way to go. I decided you will be able to load/save between levels, but that will be reflected on the high score table. The number of times you save a game will be listed on the table (which will hold an indefinite number of entries, not just 10). After you beat the last level, it will display a fun little movie, and start you over on a more difficult setting (which is linier, not a fixed number of difficulty levels). |

Hay Syd! I think while you post on this space game you should alter your avatar a little (may need to be a new registration) and add just a ?Darth Vader? helmet to him. ![]() If you need any new art work let me know and I'll see what I can do. |

You mean for my avatar, or for the game? Cuz I could use all the help in the art department that I can get for the game? Most of it will be 3D models, but the GUI will obviously be 2D and all of the particles/textures... |
