Are there plans to do a Dragon -> UOL conversion utility? It shouldn't be to hard to take a bitmap done in dragons colortable, and convert it to two bitmaps for UOL. Heck, even I could pull that off, if I had the color information for UOL. Can't claim it would be fast, efficient, or stable for public use... but I could do it ![]() |

It's done already, by DKnight. ![]() When he plans on releasing it is another matter..... ![]() |

Hopefully shortly after (Or at the same time as) UOL goes public. Or is there doubt over it's release as well? And if he doesn't release the converter, well, then I'll cobble together my own. Won't be as fancy though, but hey, at least I'd release it. Open source it, even. |

No, he will release it. It is done and it does work (the converter). UOL will be released when he feels it is ready. He is working very hard not only to stomp out bugs but adding new features. |

Will the converter allow conversion between all the various Dragon mods? |

Only from mod 9, you think? Well, a hearty bah to that! ![]() And if not, does the converter use scripts (and could therefore be changed to convert from mod 11 by anyone who understands the scripts), or is it all hard-coded? |

And where would you get that misinformation bud? ![]() I wrote 10 and 11. I wrote most of the scripts for UOL. Would stand to reason that if any Dragon mod conversion were supported, it would be my own. He's a good kid, but his logic skills need work folks. Actually, it supports converting mod 9-11 right now, and it's all controlled by xml so you could do original or mod 7 or 8 or whatever else you wanted if you had a script for it. In fact you could use different ones to transform it altogether. Like say you want to move everything down by 100 Z, you could adjust all the figures to do that too. |

why does the dragon to UOL coverter take 3 days? It's a pretty involved procedure, you are taking 6144x4096 pixels 1 pixel at a time and converting it to both terrain and altitude. I know it's still inordinately slow but how many times in your life will you need to do it? |

alright simple way to convert it to UOL now remeber this isnt fool proof, and it dosent work with advanced maps with this technique it would be to trasnfer a basic map into UOL and when i mean basic is you just filled areas with simple colors like grass forest no special blending or paintbrushing. -> open your dragon bmp and open the terrain.bmp created by UOL -> select your magic wand tool and make sure 'Contiguous' is NOT checked, and click on something in your dragon map, say the grass. (this should have selected ALL the grass in the enitre image) -> Go Select -> Save Selection -> name it grass -> save -> go to the UOL terrain.bmp -> Select -> Load Selection -> grass (dont worry bout trying to position it as it is perfectly positioned already and if you try it wont work (because the UOL map is indexed) So now you have a selection of where all your grass is, choose the UOL grass color and fill it in..... Do this each time for each area ( jungle, swamp, grass, forest, snow, mountains, etc) and you should have the basic layout of your map now in UOL without waiting 3 years for the converter to work goodluck ![]() |
