In Ultima 4 Richard Garriott included children in one of the dungeons who would suddenly attack you. He did it to create a moral dilemma for the players. And yes he took a lot of flack for it. But think about it, in a game that stresses virtues and ethics, what a great set-up. You didn't have to kill the children, there were ways to evade or win the battle without killing them. But certainly killing them was easier. It was all about choice. Pretty heady stuff for a mid-80's RPG!

Then what is the point of having them? They become scenery. You can come slaughter all the adults but the invincible children are left behind? Now more realism has actually turned into less realism.

You could have the invulnerabl children run and hide when there's trouble afoot, i.e. just run them off screen and either remove them or just invis them... then make them come back out when there's peace and quiet

Personally I liked kids in UO but hated people killing them just for fun or to impress people with their Haliskillz while ganking newbs at the bank...how lame is that...

Sort of like casting the spell "Magic Trap" on the doors of the healers shop (remember those days?) so after their rez'd they die because they only have 1hp...

Of course I'm one of those "weird" people who respects life in the real world and it bleeds over into the game world, not to say that I have not chopped a few dumbass griefers into a billion parts and sold their bitch ass heads on my vendors (everyone likes a little head).

PVP players who do it for "the thrill" strike me as people who molest gerbils because it gives them some sort of power trip...first the game is "not real" and second any "thrill" gained from the game or feeling of power would be just as "fake" or "unearned". Not some monkey pumper who's quicker with a curser.

UO Kids could have been so much more if properly scripted, imagine a group of 12 kids. One of the members runs up to you in the streets of Britain and ask you for a copper, you being the power mongering chic magnet from EGay Hell decked out in all your store bought relics of trash snub the kid or take a swing...

Much to your surprise the kid is a GM pickpocket and just ripped your money purse and reg bag out your Valorite gimp plated ass and is now hauling ass through the streets of Britain with the keys to your house inside them....

Just as you catch up on your charging war horse (also bought on Fagbay) the kid does the hand off to one of his chums who runs a different direction...now the delimma...revenge or lose a house? So you take off after the next kid who "OWNZ joo aZz" but quickly realize you been royally ganked after he runs into a crowd of 10 kids who scatter six ways till Sunday giggling all the way...to your former house where they build a throne to their den mother...someone named "Goose" who just made a royal ass out of you and is one step closer to buying that new castle.

Kids could of been great and a force to be feared more than any player panzy but they blew it and let them get slaughtered by some lamer blowing snot bubbles behind a computer screen pretending to be cool.
