Saying that is allowed really. We just know that they are actually saying

"Get RunUO today for free because we can't let people pay us for it!
RunUO is a piece of turkey shit designed to allow anyone to install, configure and crash their own game server. We provide everything you need, at no cost to you!"

If they provide everything I need without any costs, I'd like some fries with that.

You can complain if you have something better in return. Do you have?

Run uo Rules when it comes to the ease of use and setup, compared to sphere wich wont run unless u know a whole bunch of coding. but then again its everyones choice everyone is allowed to have their own opinion even if its a wrong one :) . but i have never had runuo crash my computer nor server , must just be u scrip kiddies doing to much extra coding to customize it :P (no offence ment)

anyways i love runuo , i have been able to customize it to exactly what i want to use it for and i dont really care what they put in their adds since adds are only ment for weak ppl who dont know better anyways. (as in ppl who use a product becaus the comercial sais u should) who really cares anyways as long as the product works wich it does.
and in anycase they enver said anything wrong when they said u could get it for free there was never anything saying that you could aslo buy it so there is nothing u can really do about but then again in the us u can sue anyone for saying anithing that u dont like. freedom of speech lol

I think you mixed up sphere and runuo there. I see no problem with running a sphere server (all you have to do is modify some obvious lines in sphere.ini) but for runuo you have to download .net framework and whatnot. I'm not sure how the exact runuo installation works, but I do know that sphere is damn easy to setup :P

And commercials aren't to convince people a certain product is better. Commercials are there to draw peoples attention. To make them curious and let them check it out, decide the product for themselves. You can make the greatest/funniest commercial there is, but if your product is crap people still won't buy it :P

But yeah, I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion of what is best and what isn't, and it's quite pointless having a discussion in that, as it's not likely to be changed anyway.

RunUO:

Download/Install .NET FrameWork, (Auto Installer, no configuration needed)
Download RunUO, Unzip, Run the Server.exe, and login through UO Gateway, or other client, using your 127.0.0.1 IP, done.

Just because you (speaking to everyone here complaining about this) don't know how to code in C#, Sphere is better? Is this your argument? Yea... maybe its easier for you because you can step into Sphere quite faster, but what about the 'ordinary' coder who sees
no use in learing spherescript if he can do it in a proffessional programming language, where he EXACLY knows his limits, resolutions etc.?
In almost every forum, everyone praises the emu he uses. "It's so good because you can do soandso... blah blah..." without even looking at other emus. And i'm not only talking to the Sphere users here. Especially RunUO people bother others often enough with their 'phantastic' emu, same with WP, NOX, POL, X (Insert your favourite's Emu name here)....
Do your thing with the emu of your choice. If you can reach everything you want with it, then its the right one for you. But that doesn't mean that's the right one for every other shard admin/coder out there, that they have to be convinced to use it too, and that there is no other choice to have. Every emu has its own and specific pros and cons... but every emu has the same overestimation of it's own capabilites.

Make the world a more peaceful place, give other emus your hand :P

I do know C#, I just don't use it frequently because I prefer C++. In fact i've worked for a RunUO shard (which switched to sphere now).
Ive tried RunUO, sphere, pol and noxwiz. RunUO is a decent emu, but I'm not going to bother my players with a restart every 5 mins while I'm tweaking something. Sphere can do everything RunUO can do, it's just easier. Why would I go the hard and annoying way?
Im just trying to open people's eyes that RunUO isn't as good as most people say it is, and is definately not the saviour of the UO emulation community.

this is becoming a flame.....

ok both are easy to set-up, it just depends on your tolerance of windows products is all. There is nothing close to runuo we know this, then again there is nothing close to the ammount of custom scripts and portability to sphere. All have good and bad sides.

personally i've seen runuo grow since like beta 5. They have progressed faster and beta than sphere *ever* did. Sphere was great because it was easy to use and easy to script.

don't forget the limitations of sphere.

If you've tryed to make complicated matters in sphere there are *so* many things you just can't do.

it depends on the level of complexity you want.
I'd say for a basic shard w/ some PvP or basic Rp shard sphereserver will be a bit easier to use.

As far as scaleability runuo cannot be beat. it's more stable, scriptable, etc.

There is no "best"... well, ya there is... but it also depends on what you want to use it for.

I don't think stable is an issue with either emu, everyone says RunUO is stable so I'll assume it is. I know for a fact Sphere is, unless you hit one of those never-used test versions that shouldn't have EVER made it public.

Customizability (is that a word?) wise, I know sphere is capable of a helluva lot more than "basic pvp or basic rp shard". Everyone always says RunUO's strongpoint is it's ability to change anything and everything, which I'm sure is true and is a wonderful thing... but they always follow that part of their conversation with "and sphere is limited" or "sphere is only good for blah blah", which is NOT true. There's nothing I wanna do that I can't do with sphere. Nothing.

It's pointless to argue over this. Both sphere and runuo have their advantages and disadvantages.

But there's some things that are important factors in someones opinion.
1. RunUO -is- good and started with a good reputation (Though ryan murdered that by being an idiot)
2. People who use RunUO believe everything Ryan says. So if he compares RunUO to Sphere people cheer, instead of checking it up for liability.
3. Sphere has a crap community and a bunch of idiots as devs (Damian etc.)
4. RunUO has a crap community. As far as I know, only Ryan is the idiot. But that's because I don't know any others :p
5. Sphere has lied to the people before. It was a powerful emulator before RunUO showed up, and most of the community were using it. They however lied (and still do) on what they are getting finished, when they are getting it finished and how they are. People were getting sick of the dissapointments, and ofcourse RunUO sounded like the best second solution to get away from all this sphere crap. And if everything I hear from their releases is true, they at least don't lie about functionalities or releases.

These are all factors that have nothing to do with the emu itself, but still influence people alot. Everyone will have their own preferences and that won't change as easily. I don't script, but I've gone through the problems my shard encountered with RunUO, and the things Radiant could do with sphere revisions. That changed my opinion.
