There are 4000 posts on these forums asking exactly that. Try the FAQ and Map Making Tutorial forums, those'd be the likely places to look :)

ok i have a prob. after i cleared my statics with dragon+mod
i loaded up my shpere 55i then axis
went to britt. the walls of the bank in britt. and the surounding buildings where gonearound the edge of the land by the bank a few feet out is supose to be water well theres like a dirt brown color then water after that
and the floors and some of the objects and npcs in the buildings r still there. maybe i just need to nuke em then place the cobble stones tile over top of the wood floors of the old static buildings?

It almost sounds like you cleared your statics files, but you are still using the Britania map. That would definetly give you the buildings being gone, and no water tiles where the water bank is, at the east side of the bank.
As far as sphere.. uhh.. maybe try thier forums for that stuff. Dunno anything about it, sorry.

55i doesn't support 2 maps, it came out 2 years before uo even had 2 maps :) you'd have to use a newer sphere version (99za for example is newest) to get access to map2 and map3.mul files).

you can use up to 255 mapplanes on 55i however.

.mapplane xxx or .go x,y,z,m where "m" is the mapplane
