How do I convert a 8 bit bitmap to a monochrome bitmap using PhotoShop?

From inside Photoshop 7.0 select the following.

#1. F1 or Help
#2. "Photoshop help..." from the dropdown menu (Skip if F1 used)
#3. On the upper left of the screen you will see options for help, select "Index" then select "M" just under it.
#4. Now scroll down till you see "Monochrome Option" and click the (1) next to it.
