coordinates for map editing in WorldForge are obviously different than the standard xy coordinates of the map. My question is, is there a way to convert the coordinates from the map into something WorldForge can use? Maybe a simple mathematical conversion?

If you're talking about the freezing/melting... it goes by block, not by tile. A block is 8x8 tiles, which is how the client reads the map.
