I've downloaded the Dragon Mod 9, and the addon to it. Actually, I've downloaded it a number of times, tryin to get the thing to work. Every time I d'click the Dragon.exe icon, it immediately crashes before it even starts. I get three of those "Send/Don't Send" error messages from XP.

I've been searching for an answer to this problem for days, mainly because I don't like to post unless its absolutely necessary.

Am I doing something wrong here? How do I get Dragon working?

Assuming you've made sure you got the files unpacked into the proper subdirectorys (we just had a discussion about that in another post) one of the things that causes Dragon to immediately crash that comes to mind is the wrong maptrans.txt. Check and make sure the file header is for the executeable version you are using. Also I'm not 100% sure but I think I rememeber that if you don't have a map0.mul already in the directory that you set as the path for it Dragon will crash as well (it needs something to overwrite).

By the way if you go to system properties, advanced, error reporting; you can disable those annoying send/don't send messages.

// FOR USE WITH DRAGON 1.03.62 ONLY

thats the header i get in maptrans.txt
I assume that is the wrong one for version 9?

the map0.mul is in the directory

hehe, and thanks, those send/don't send messages were getting so annoying.

No, that's the right version.

Just to clarify.

There is Dragon 1.03.62 and there's Dragon 1.05

My mod (version 9.1, as it's up to) uses Dragon 1.03.62

There is a "test" maptrans file for Dragon 1.05 included, but I don't really keep it up to date, and I don't recommend using it. (It's maptrans105.txt).
If you want to try out Dragon 1.05, then you'll need to rename the maptrans105.txt to maptrans.txt and move the original maptrans.txt (for 1.03.62) someplace else. The format of the file is slightly different so you can't mix and match them.

As for your actual problem with Dragon crashing, I'm not quite sure what would be the cause of it. I'm not much help in this case. :(
Just to check though, make sure the map0.mul is not read-only? (Right-click it and select properties; there should NOT be a check in the read-only block)

Yeah, this is driving me crazy.

The .mul files are all not read only.
The data paths are correct.

In the errors, it says Error Signature.....
AppName: dragon.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: uxtheme.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2800.1106 Offset: 0000302c

I don't know if that helps. And I dont know what uxtheme.dll does. I'm considering reinstalling windows.

Sooo frustrating. :(

Ok, I think I know what the problem is, but I can't tell you exactly what it is... :?

Do you have any kind of desktop manager/skins program installed? I saw a thread on www.NTFS.org a while back relating to one of these types of programs. Turns out it had some kind of bug in the program, that affected all kinds of things.

If you're not sure, do a search for "uxtheme.dll" on your computer. Since it's a dll it may be hidden so you'll have to turn on hidden files.
(Windows Explorer: Tools->Folder Options; View (tab)-> Show hidden files and folder)

I'll see what I can find but you might also want to do a search at the NTFS forums as well for info on this. I think there is a solution much easier than reinstalling windows.
