Post subject:  Help ! Seek creative map !

Hello!

I am sorry but I do not speak quite English because I am Swiss and I speak French. I am in the search of a unique map for my shard because I do not sometimes happen to do of them one and I really draw very badly. Could somebody do one of them to me? Or would somebody have unique that it does not use? If there are interested parties to help me, please contact me with admin@phisius.com or then answer this post.

Thank you,

Phisius

A map takes a long time to do - if your not going to do it yourself, I suggest offering money.. Because its not something that gets done in a day, a GOOD map takes weeks or months.

Well I will be starting work on a very complex map sometime here. But It will be provided to a number of shards so I dont know how unique you could consider it.(considering the amount of time i'm going to be investing into it. It would be just wasteful if only one shard could use it)

cgeorge, you were asked to make a map for Hell's Gateway (that's the shard, right? I forget the name) and you're going to give it to other shards?...

I'm just a fellow with alot of good ideas and some friends who would love to help bring those ideas to life. After completion it would first be offered to specific shards I know of then perhaps see if anyone else is interested.

One of those friends is zach aka viper who is a GM at hell's gateway. He's my main supporter and he has mentioned that he mentioned it to others at hells gateway and they expressed interest in it.

BTW where have you heard of my connection to hell's gateway?

From Zach, he asked me to build a map for Hell's Gateway but I can't because I'm working on mine right now. I've known Zach for about 2-3 years now (we met on a PR shard).

What is a PR shard? You mean RPing?

Hmm well he did mention to me something about a skilled friend of his that might be able to help but latter said he couldnt since he was working on his own map. Some kind of "medieval" map. When I asked him what made a map medieval he said walls around the city(conversation was longer then that but thats what it boiled down to)

You go by the user name ben dover?

I am finally able with a few hours of studies to draw my map, I thus will even do it me:) Thank you for all the proposals but that will go.

Most cities in medieval Europe didn?t have walls. They were almost always made of wood/plaster, and got burned down every other decade. Except, of course, the churches (which they made in stone). I think only the more strategic or densely populated cities had enough manpower/resources to build city walls. Most castles were wood, too, unless there was a handy source of stone nearby. Unless, of course, you?re going with ?fantasy medieval?, in which case UO is already that. :-P

Yes I am Ben Dover and I never mentioned walls around my cities. Don't know where he got that from. And PR = player run.

I still have no idea what makes a map "medieval"

Here's an idea: maybe it is built around what cities/towns/forts were like in the middle ages?

UO doesn't have the needed graphics for that, unless you're an artist.

Doesn't have the graphics for what exactly?

As in "middle age graphics"

What specifically is different in a "medieval" UO map verses a regular UO map? Some of us need specifics because of our inability to peer into your brain and see what comes to your mind when think of cities/towns and forts built in the "middle ages" with UO.

A simple "middle age architecture" in google got me some links.

http://www.manitoulin-link.com/medieval/castles.html
http://www.manitoulin-link.com/medieval/sanmarco.html
http://www.historyforkids.org/learn/gre ... ekarch.htm

I don't feel like looking up more website for you but hopefully you will see how medieval architecture is different from medieval fantasy architecture.

Medieval is a stereotype whos definition lies in the mind of the individual.

Those links you provided refer to a number of different ages/times of alot of different cultures/places. Any of which could be called "medieval"

What specifically do you do different in your "medieval" UO maps?

Medieval = middle ages = an actual time in history. Get your facts straight.

So you?re going to create medieval ?realistic? world on a map that is, at most, just a little larger than 3 miles across?

I'm not working on this anymore (if you haven't heard) but what I wanted to do was make a world that is like Earth in the middle ages but at the same time isn't Earth, if you understand what I mean.
