Post subject:  multimap.rle

I'm wondering is there any easy way to recreate the multimap.rle for people with custom world maps?

^^ this tool takes a bmp and converts to multimap.rle (For cartography maps) , but any bmp from uo automap converted into a monochrome bmp looks like shit.

thanks

Well if you want a map that looks like EA's, then you'll have to draw it by hand, like they did.

I suppose you could make a utility that basically took a screenshot of the entire map (talk about one helluva huge image, eh?) and then have it shrink it... You'd end up being able to see outlines of buildings, trees, etc.

Not sure how that would turn out though, and I'm personanly too lazy to bother trying it.

It does take a bit of work, but I have successfully taken the bmp of a custom map, shrunk it, changed it to b/w, then touched it up and converted to a rle with the above tool. It does work as advertized.
I used the above tool to convert the osi rle to a bmp, then taken some of the "hand drawn" parts (like the town and the mountians) and copied it to the custom map. Since you've invested the time into creting a map, it's really not that much extra to do a little work on this.
You can see the results here:

I have been having problems with this prog. It crashes my cliant when i use the file it outputs, the odd thing is i can look at a map maybe 2 or 3 times b4 it crashes! my rle file is much smaller than osi's file i dont know if that makes any odds.

Make sure you have a recent copy. If you downloaded from anywhere besides the author's webpage, then it may be out of date. There was a bug in the program that caused that problem.
Here's where to get a working copy:
http://www.eikon.tum.de/~isp/sphere/doc_index.html
Go to the Programs page and download it again.

If this does not work, let me know.

Thanx.... that works now. I guess I must have had a real old copy. And an extra thanx for responding so quick!
