 Post subject: Editing Trammel Map
PostPosted: Sun Jun 08, 2003 12:24 pm
Hello,

I try to edit Trammel what should run on UORun (latest Release) since yesterday, but don`t get it going...

The plan is to add a new Isle to the existing map. I studied a bunch of websites and tutorials but still have problems to get the most Tools startet.

What would you tell me to do?
Which Emulator an which Tools for editing?
Dragon f.e. doesn`t make the MAP2BMP Conversion (say`s he can`t open mul-file?!)

Is there somwhere a real step by step tutorial dealing with this?

I really hope you`re going to help me with some patience...

Thanks for any hint in advance. :)

You can't edit the map directly with Dragon.
Basically, create a new map with just the island on it (in the right location as if it was in the UO Map).
Run that through Dragon and DragonSP.
Then use UOCopy to insert that new island into the UO map.

That's it in a nutshell. There's info on UOCopy in the FAQs forum.
Best of luck.

Thanks for reply!

Unfortuneately I?m far away from the nutshell yet...
First and main problem right now is to convert the existing trammel mal into a bmp file to be changed in photoshop.

Any idea why dragon won`t do this little job for me?

Ma plan now ist to draw a new island in photoshop and use the resulting bmp file for a "new" map...

Sorry for double post, but now I?m registered... ;)

Dragon show errors...
"00 is not a valid interger" and after pressing ok
"Can`t open mul0.map"

I don`t have AutoMap, UO or any server running right now.

The map2bmp program doesn't work correctly. Don't even bother trying to get it to work. If you need a reference bmp of the uo map, then use InsideUO to take a screenshot of the uo map. Keep in mind you can't edit this either. You'll need to create the new map from scratch.

For the "00 is not a valid interger" error, sounds like you either modified a script somewhere, or you're not using matching version of Dragon. If you are using my mod make sure you are using Dragon 1.03.62. My mod only works with that version.

For the error: "Can`t open mul0.map", make sure you have an existing copy of the map0.mul where you tell it to make it. It cannot actually create the map0, but modifies the copy you give it instead. Make sure you have a backup of the original.

Hi,

I created a new bmp file just as a plain test which looks like this:
Image

It has the dimensions 6144 x 4096 as told in your tutorial.
I saved the file and tried to convert it with Dragon (1.03.62) into a map file... with the follwing errors:
Allocating memory (MAP)
Allocating Memory (BMP)

In Dragon just the path to the bmp file is filled and no server is running...
What am I doing wrong?

thx!

Edit: Can I have the titel "Total Newb"...

Edit2: Ok, it seems to generate the map, when I overwrite the existing map0.mul... but I?m sure I?ll be back... ;)

Edit3: Just as I said... :D
The new Map works very fine, now. Only one thing does not - UOAutoMap doesn`t display the new map, althoug I deleted all files in the programm folder except the exe.
Anytime I start AutoMap now, it takes up to a minute and the original OSI map appears.

I`d be glad if someone could help me once more in this case! :)

Edit4: I got it... AutoMap took the mul files from the 3D client to generate the new one... I renamed the 3D folder and it works...
It?s quite ugly, but it works... *g*
