Just curious, am I the only one who prefers SMC over Dragon? https://ryandor.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=63 |

I used Dragon for a while, and had it pretty well customized for a while (you can find some of my scipts on Rayandor's site). But, as good as Dragon is, it is pretty limited by the 256 colour pallet for both terrain textures and altitude. Which, in turn, required me to do a lot of adjusting in WorldForge. Then one day Syduis' Map Converter came out. It uses two bitmaps - one for terrtain textures, another for altitude. I was hooked. Now I had a tool with which I could have every single texture easily available, AND altitudude chages where I had complete control over exactly how high I wanted the land (from -127 to +127). Okay, so the final stages of map rendering take a little longer. Transition and Item Placer needed some work to make them actually useful, but that wasn't hard. UOCoast isn't exactly fast, but it does the job for land to water transitions. But the fact I how have complete control over the map, and spend a LOT less time "fixing" things in WorldForge more than makes up for it. |

I did actully have a short toturial on it at paigelore, but I need to find and repost it. It's good to see someone actually being able to use it. Maybe you'd be able to write a guide for it? along with some info on the other programs you use to get transitions, etc. -Ryandor |

Post subject: | Well... |
I think I can guess why so few people use it. 1 - Dragon has been around a while, so people are familliar with it and it's pretty well known. 2 - SMC is pretty new, and not well "advertised", so few people have even heard of it. But I'll take up the challenge of writing a tutorial/guide. That should help a little. I do have my customizations for SMC and Transition available, in case anyone wants to download them. http://home.mindspring.com/~candyman3/d ... Tweaks.zip |
