Post subject:  Few quesions.

I have a question about how to make snow changes much like the grassy bumps you show how to do in your tutorial.

Or like I have taken in this screenshot of OSI.

Also, I'm wondering about the secret passage through the grass as you can see in this picture.

Thanks for taking the time.

The snow bump would have to be a major script change. Requiring two colors for it to work right like the current grass bump (although not as many different altitudes would be needed I think). It would be best done by taking the grass bump and modifing it to use snow instead. ALso, I think it would'nt need as many transitions since there's no difinitive grass "edges" required. Just the snow coast tiles could be used it looks like.

As for the secret entrance, I had to look at a map where I actually used it once and there tile IDs are 01B1 and 01B2 (hex). These are walkthrough grass tiles. There's also a set of walk through forest tiles, but I can't remember where they are. as long as you've got static (or dynamic) tiles under those walkthrough tiles, you can walk there. The only consideration you need to worry about is where you start to use regular grass, you need to be able to walk under them, so make sure you put this into a side of a hill or something.

LOL That's kinda' cool, you could make traps that way. You'd need a way for players to get out, of corse, but it could be interesting for dungeon entrances, or perhaps secret pirate caves?

Aye. I decided to test my hand at map-making finally. After critiqueing other people's work for the past work, and helping others with ideas, I guess I figured I'd see what I could do.

And these are things that I wanted to be able to add into a map. As I want to make something VERY good for me to build on. Because I like to build in game, and I do very well with that. But all of the maps I've worked on are.... well either horrible. Or OK. Even my own shards custom map, it's Ok - Decent, but there's a lot of things that I would change about it.

:)

If there is any easy way to explain how to do those things then I would be GREATLY appreciative of the person who can help me with that.

Yes, and the second screenshot is of the secret passage way. It was built into the side of a hill like so. I forgot to get an outside screenshot to show it.

So there's no easy way of doing either of these eh?

That is o differet than a cave, really. when you have your grass hill made, you would need several tiles of the GrassNoDraw to allow the head clearance of the character. so if you start at 0, and the ext tile is say, 10, ad then the next is at 20, (yes, you would really want more tiles to make a smooth transition) you would want, 2 tiles wide x 3 tiles of the GrassNoDraw, at those same altitudes. Then in game, once you have those placed, you simply put your static tiles down to walk in. Of course, there are ways to cover up the edges that might stick out of that No Draw Grass tile.. maybe use a Static grass tile at the first step.. or place some grasses, ferns, whatever around it.. (you see a couple trees on that pic osi used) and you are done ;)
Hope that helps.
If not i could put some step by step pics together.

**edit
btw, I am looking for world builders, among other areas of map/world building. I have a very well evolved world atm, but am in need of some one to help get me motivated again. the shard is active, running with RunUO, on a powerful server devoted to the shard alone, on an ADSL line ( and will go to a mbit line if needed later).
If interested, anyone, I am considering the help ;)
Screenshots are on my website below. thanks.

Well, currently I'm working on my own shard... Brisbane.

If you want screenshots, go to: http://brisbane.demonserver.de/ and check out the screenshots section. I'd be willing to at least give a hand or ideas for buildings and such to your WB staff.

But I'm sure I'll need some step by step tutorial or something for the secret passage and such as I'm a beginner at building maps but I thinkI'm doing very well for just beginning.

There's actually two ways (so far, *wink*) to place the walkthrough grass tiles. First, the old standby of WorldForge.
The second is by using the Fix file that Dragon can use. Provided you know the exact placement of where you want it, and the correct altitudes, you put it in the fix file and Dragon will put it in for you. Of course, knowing how to use the fix file is a requirement. There's a short how to in the FAQs, but it's really a matter of playing around with it and seeing how it works. It can be a tedious process, but you only need to do it once.
