Post subject: | A question on scripts |
Not to get too technical, but this is something that is now starting to pester me..... How do all of the scripts "interact"? Specifically, how do the .dfn scripts work with the .js scripts? I have managed to find some of the more important things, such as how to remove buildings that I have placed (by wiping certain files), but I am still not sure how to manage things such as adding additional dragon species (colors) in, or creating a skeletal mount, or even such things as how to just change the scripts that tell me I have just left town and entered the wilderness. Is there a tutorial on this anywhere, or any brief writeup on it? I am pretty confident with my scripting abilities, once I see how one thing affects another, and even more confident if I have some examples to work from. I feel like I have about half of the puzzle....... I know this doesn't affect mapmaking per se, but it does come into play if I am looking at defining my own towns ("You have left the protection of Generic Town", for example) and also spawn areas (I would like to be able to create an area where certain creatures spawn). Once again, I apologize for asking what may be stupid questions, but I am truly fascinated with the whole process, and am hoping to be able to make my own valuable contributions in the future. Thanks to everyone!! |

You didn't even mention which emulator you are using. There's more than one, you know. |

Lol we would be typing for weeks to teach you all the things you just asked! But if you go take a look at http://www.sphereserver.net you will find everything you need. Including forums for your questions, tutorials, and a selection of scripts you can dl and use on your shard or just to teach yourself from. But to answer 1 thing you asked.. You set your areas (towns, wilderness etc) in the region file. As for spawning monsters etc, they have nothing to do with regions or the map and you can spawn them anywhere you wish and at any rate. The best thing to use for that is Axis. You can find that at http://sphere-axis.sourceforge.net/ . You can use Axis to build, spawn, manage accounts and a 1000 other things! Its great!! ![]() |

My apologies, Sydius--you are right. I should be a little more descriptive. Okay, I am using UOX3, making maps with Dragon (version 8, if I'm not mistaken). I haven't looked into Sphere at all, although I have heard it referenced. I will go check out the scripts and forums there. Thanks for the pointer, Dragonfire! Peace-- |

I would reccomend upgrading mod 8 to mod 9. They are compatible with each other except mod 9 has more colors to pick from. Unless you've already customized the scripts. Then it might not be worth it. ![]() Also, just to clear up, The dragon scripts do not interact with any of the emu's at all. The only files that it affects is the map and statics files, as it's designed to. ![]() -Ryandor |
