UOCopy and MulTool's Melt Statics do the exact same thing. Since you already have the statics in a wsp file, you can then use MulTool's Clear Statics to get rid of anything in that area, with worrying about losing it. Later you can refreeze the wsp file you created with UOCopy by using MulTool's Freeze Statics.
Hope that explains it. As I've said in a previous post, I prefer UOCopy for extracting statics, since MulTool can be buggy. As you've discovered.
