First you might want to check out the FAQ's http://www.ryandor.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=151
Then you might also want to check out the Sphere forums. (I don't know the link to that)
After you read all of that, and then have any problems feel free to ask.

Edit:
Ok checked out some stuff... here's the link to sphere http://sphereserver.net/
Or the forums
http://sphereserver.net/modules.php?op= ... file=index

It is hard to understand where your problems starts.

When you first run Dragon from Dragon.exe, There is a 15 second delay before you can start the program. Once that is past, you click the 'OK' button.

Once you have the Dragon interface up, you must direct the Map0.mul and your Map.bmp files to the directory.
There is a browse button '.....' for you to find your files.

the Dragon+Mod 9 version ( i believe it is Dragon 1.03.65 or somthing close) does run a bit slower than the newest one. But with the system you have explained it should not take more than 2-3 minutes assuming you do not have a very detailed map.bmp, since you are just starting out.

If you could explain a bit more the process you have made in runing Dragon, It could help in trying to solve your trouble.

Check your altitude that goes from Water (should be -5 ) and your Land. If you have a very big transition from the water to land, you will get that. Try to make your land somthing aroune 0, or maybe 2. Not 20, 25, or more. I am fairly sure that would be your trouble.

The brown tiles are covered in the FAQs. Read everything in that forum completely, and you'll find a lot of solutions in there for most of the common issues.
