Post subject:  Caves And Cities

hey i've just about got one of my continents done, except for two things i want to add and that would be cities.

Well I got the idea of what type of city's i want to create but not really sure on how to create them.

I know i have to put the basic foundation on the map. Ive tried using the square selection tool for this but it gets boring having squared buildings, I would really like variety.

As for the passage i want to have to the city of the damned i havent completed it yet i am having trouble with the cave and entrance.

I am new to these ive made a early version of the city of the damned but sandstone and plots of dirt dont look to good

I think i am having trouble with the passage because of the shape of my mountain its really weavy and fat.

I will try to get screenshots up next week.

And there you have it please help me :)

Okay, I am going to assume you know about World Forge, and the Map Edit tool it has..
I have tried several different ways to go about making the base (foundation) of towns/Buildings, And have found really, the best way to go about this is to take carfull thought in the layout first. Plan ahead to what you want yout town area to be like, and start to simply build the buildings after your raw map is created.
Take in mind, You will never get the area the shape and size you want it the first time with Dragon, Unless you have every building's exact shape and placement down to the last Pixel.
Once you start building, you can export the buildings as they are done to .wsc files for storage.
As you build them, You can edit your Map.bmp as you need to for the land shape, clearings, spots of forest etc..
Once that is done, buildings in place, Town area is finished as much as you can with Dragon.. Use World Forge Map Edit to do the Finish work.. Add in the connecting paths to your building's doors, add in the Floor tiles to your buildings (i recomend this, as it is much easier to view/edit your map0.mul with them on there)
That is how i go about everything, It takes time, yes, but if you want a good, professional map that looks like it was well planned out and made, its the best way i know of :)

Hope that helps.

Umm you dont know how to build a city? Its really easy... try taking a piece of paper and drawing a layout of what you want.. concider the materials you want to use... make sure all of the parts are their... one marble set in "inside uo" is not complete... start out small and just keep going :)

Oh and Thor this is Dian's wife btw

okay i think i understand cities now and dian is helping me out very well.

my idea of making a city:

1. make paper drawings on the city what i want it to look like and all that jazz....

2. Build one building at a time ingame and use worldforge and static them continue.

you use worldforge to do it right? by coords?

THank You for ur help Dian

Well i use World Forge yea, But to do it the most eficient way, you really need to have an Import/export command in your EMU youuse. And by this I mean you need a command, to when you are finished building one building, you can say, for example.. .Export x1, y1, x2, y2
and it would 'export' any and all Items in that area, wich would be your building. Now of course that is the most crude example of commands.
That would in turn, transform your building into an Items.wsc file, that World forge can read, in order to freeze it to your statics/staidx files.
I say this is most eficient because you can then, once you export a building, make a copy of it before freezing, and you will have a backup of it. I have roughly 200 Mb worth of just items.wsc files alone (roughly 1500 individual files)
This allows you to replace your building later also, should you do some map work, and an area is modified just enough that your building wouldnt fit there again.. Or, should you do extensive Map work, even though you left your town area alone, you can simply re-freeze those files again.. ad you are done.
Hope that helps, again ;)

Post subject:

what is that german for geshim?

Geshim is basically like fel only different!

it consists of a decaying pvp land there are 4 tribes/factions (there is an ongoing issue on whether to have tribes or factions)

It is pretty much a One Continent for now but is threatened to split into 2 countries because of the Geothermal Pressure.

The Tribes
----------------
Candar-Tamers In The Beginning they fought and fought the Nekaro to the south but failed many times because of there being weaker tameables near there strong hold.

Nekaro-Thieves In The Beginning they stole from the Candar driving them Into Way Northern Geshim. The Stronghold Lies In The Swamp Of Nekaro.

Telphi-Magic Users they pretty much have no enemy for they are the strongest lol There strong Hold is in the Desert Of Telphis.

Fenma-Warriors no one wants to mess with this tribe.

This was in the beginning of course there will be more assortion then just warriors,Mages,Tamers,Thieves lol.

I will stop now because this has nothing to do with map making...lol

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What I need help with and need to know......

How do i friggen customize dragon/make new mod lol.

How Do I Get More Staff?

How Do I Make Caves,Dungeons,Mountains,Unflat land lol.

How Do I Learn Worldforge.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
now i present.......My current Ugly Mountain Technique.....

So far i use ryandor's method and when i get up to the top i click and dab all over my mountain top lol and it produces an ugly look.

Ive seen Much Better Mountains And Would Love To Learn A New Technique.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a lot of questions and stuff but..........

I'm not volunteering (no offense, Abbadon keeps me pretty occupied), however if you can get your shard up to some sort of Alpha testing phase, and get a few testers, you can try getting a few of the testers that seem most knowledgable about the game and have good attitudes and seem trustworthy, and interested in your shard, and offer them staff positions.

This is as best I can say unless you just happen to have a handful of expirienced GM's stashed away somewhere.

Post subject:

Maybe you have not seen the links on the submissions board, on this forum that Ryandor has provided? theres plsty of places that have various mul editors.

If not, you can find them here

If/when i find other sites i know of, i will also submit them, and maybe Ryandor will add them as well.

how will mapping Change with age of shadows?

i will check that stuff out when i get time

Post subject:

Why would 'Mapping' change? Only things changed are the additions of the Map3.mul and statics/staidx3.muls.. and untill some programs give support to those, you wont be able to modify them.. since the map3 is again, a different size even from the Map2.mul (llishanar).
But as far as you altering your Map0, nothing has/will changed. Or map2 for that matter..
Will mess around with map3 ad uo Copy.. but i doubt it will support it. I think 4 lands/facets are way more than any private shard in existance has players for anyways.

The Map creation process has got to be the same i am talking with the new land Malas isnt there new statics, and tiles? I am like on hold over and over again because i dont want to be in the process of a almost complete map when something big and new comes out lol.

dont chew me out it was just a question okay?

I love this map making stuff tho gosh is it fun not just the map i feel as if i am creating a new world!

Its so much fun!

Cant Stop!

Must Go And Plot Things On Paper! :)

Ryandor whens ur next tutorial estimated to come?

O yeah and the Final Shard Name is! not Orgin Of Power cuz thats lame....

I came up with The Outer Realm because i was thinking how shards change u script something and after awhile it gets old and dies Things on a shard morph and change as do worlds therfore

The Outer Realm is coming soon!
