Post subject: | Strange Error Message. Eek! Help! |
I've used Dragon and DragonSP to create three new .muls. I've deleted the original UO .muls, and placed my newly created .muls in their place under the UO directory. When I try to load SphereServer it says the map0.mul is corrupt or missing, and when I try to execute client.exe I get the following message: UOReport::fatal: Failed to open 'map0.mul' from HD using a maximum install. Either this file is not readable, your system needs to be rebooted, or the file does not exist and you either need to reinstall or switch to a non-maximum install. What could I possibly be doing wrong? I would greatly appreciate any help that can be offered. -Feilong |

By the way I'm using Windows XP, with the newest patched version of Ultima Online 2D (but I also tried this with an unpatched UO), the Dragon v1.05.00 Prerelease #6, and the dragon.bmp example file that was included in the zip. I ran Dragon, converting the dragon.bmp into a map0.mul whereupon I ran DragonSP creating Staidx0.mul and Statics0.mul. I deleted the three original files from the UO directory, replacing them with my newly created multis. I also tried it without deleting the original files, by simply overwriting them with my own. Each time I received the above error message when I tried running the client.exe. Maybe that info will narrow the problem down. |

Do you have any other UO client directories? Putting then into the wrong one would cause this. Also, can you see the muls on with InsideUO? -Ryandor |

I tried viewing my created map0.mul with InsideUO and it said it could not open the file. -Feilong |

Then it is truely corrupt or it's in the wrong place. Triple-check the paths and/or rerun Dragon. Do you have other UO directories? -Ryandor |

Ryandor - I had two directories, Ultima Online 2D and 3D. I uninstalled UO 3D, reinstalled 2D, did everything to the letter according to the tutorial. So at this point I have one directory, Ultima Online 2D, I create my map0.mul, staidx0.mul, and statics0.mul files and move them from my C:\Program Files\Dragon\ directory into my C:\Program Files\Ultima Online 2D\ directory whereupon it asks me if I want to replace the existing files with my own. I say yes. InsideUO still cannot view the map, and the client.exe will not run it. At this point, Ryandor, I am totally and completely at the mercy of your knowledge. What do you suggest? -Feilong |

Check the file size of map0.mul (right click, then properties) It should be "73.5 MB (77,070,336)" (Not "size on disk", but just "size") If it's off by even one, it may not work. Let me know. -Ryandor |

I checked it and it appears to be the correct size. 73.5 MB (77,070,336 bytes) |

Hmm, I'm beggining to not now what this may be... Are you familiar with RegEdit? If so, check to make sure the path is set correctly there. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Origin Worlds Online\Ultima Online\1.0] is the location where it should be set (Or similair) -Ryandor |

I checked out UO in RegEdit and all of the paths seem to be pointing to the correct directory. I'm using the Lord Blackthorn's Revenge disc, by the way. (If that changes anything). A friend suggested I try with an older UO disc. |

That might, but not sure. One thing maybe is to check for any maidiff files. If you find them, move them to a different folder. Maybe those are interfering. But then, InsideUO should at least work I would think. -Ryandor |

Doesn't UO:LBR lack the verdata.mul file? |

I moved all of the mapdiff file to another folder, but the UOReport::fatal: message persisted. |

What are you using to start it up? Are you using the shortcut for it? Or running the Cleint directly? Maybe this UOReport thing is part of the patching thing it tries to do? You should be running either the client directly or Ignition/UORice/UOGateway to start it up. But then, it still doesn't answer the question of why InsideUO can't see it. That's the real mystery to me at this point. Just for kicks, you can put the original map and statics back in and see if it runs. -Ryandor |
