Post subject: | Thank you for "Elevation problems" Help |
I have custom map using dragon. Everything worked fine for about 4 months. but one day I have area, about where Haven is, where I fall inot holes upto -40 and as high as +40. The terrain looks flat as it should be. I walk and fallinto holes and seem to climb whne there is nothing to climb and then fall (OUCH). Like I said this area was perfect for the first few months. Also I tried replacing my map0 with a new one but it still happens - any siggestions? |

Did you remove your "Diff" files? Sounds like they may still be patched. Go into your UO folder and click on each one, if they do not say 0 bytes then that might be your problem. There are blank diff files in the download section I think. Dev |

You can also make blank diff files by using a text editor, and just naming files as the dif file, then save it with nothing in it. |

That fixed the problem by Zeroing out dif files. After having other map problems with statics I replaced all Datapath files I thought I had zero'd out all difs already. Thanks again. |

if you use blank diff's you will also need to patch them to your players. To do it right with RunUO you need to set the TileMatrixPatch = false. That disables RunUO's reading of dif files completly. If you run a search for that TileMatrixPatch you will find a script and instructions on how to do that. |

erm, sorry, I think this must be a dumb question, but what are diff files? Do you mean the mapdif.mul and so on? Does that also have to do with houses that were placed and with deleting all statics with dragonsp still having the walls (at least you can't go where they were placed before)? Thanks for your help! If you run a search for that TileMatrixPatch you will find a script and instructions on how to do that. It's not a complete solution though, because all of the players will still have DIF files and will see those graphics even if the server doesn't see them. So even if you set the server not to read them, the players will all still need to delete their DIFF files or create 0-byte DIFF files. |

Do you mean the mapdif.mul and so on? Yes. Those are mini-patches for the map files. They also contain differences between the facets (for instance, Haven is contained in the diff files, so is the Yew swamp). If you create a custom map and don't do anything with the Diff files you will still see all those little pieces of map contained in them. |
