Post subject: | Duplicate static on tram and fel |
I have looked everywhere for an answer to this problem. Runuo said the only thing that could help is to use world forge. the problem is both tram and fel use the same file and when we freeze static it puts all the static in both worlds. (example we built stairs at the brit bank in tram and a different set of stairs in fel but both sets of stairs are showing up on both tram and fel.) there was something said that fel is mapmul0 and tram is mul 1 but there is no mul 1. what do we need to do to fix the overlapping of all the static. would copying and renaming the map file work (by creating a file named map mul 1) we are at wits end trying to figure out how to fix this, any help would be appreciated. |

The statics aren't in the map*.mul files. They are in the statics*.mul files. In order to put different statics in tram and fel, you need to use the stadif*.mul files. This isn't something that I personally know how to do, I just thought I'd try to clear up some of the confusion. Just for reference: map0.mul contains the map for both tram and fel. mapdif0.mul contains anything from fel that's different from the main map. mapdif1.mul is the same, but for tram. statics0.mul contains static items for both tram and fel. stadif0.mul contains fel-only statics, and stadif1.mul contains tram-only statics. A remote possibility... create a map using the statics from fel only, then take the statics0.mul and rename it stadif0.mul. Then create a map with the statics from tram, then rename the new statics0.mul to stadif1.mul. I somehow doubt this will work, since the file formats might be different, but it might be worth a shot. |

No, that won't work. Punt has been working on some tools to let you work with the dif files, do some searching. Otherwise you're correct. |

Thought so. Well, hopefully Punt's tools will help you out Harmony. Just out of curiosity, how about a tutorial on the various statics file formats? Like the one a couple months ago about the binary format of the map*.mul file(s)? |
