Thanks Well, first, for map0/1, that is no longer the default size (with ML expansion). It is now more like :7167,4096. But without modifying the client, or using a custom client, no. |

And has anyone tried to modify the client? Any progress on this one? If someone could do this, it'd be great. |

Some people tried but never got it to work, if I remember correctly. I am sure the client?s programmers used preprocessor definitions, so finding every instance of the hard-coded size is nearly impossible, especially when you consider bit-shifts. |

Would be great if it worked. Oh well. Thanks |

Ahhha! You wanna to put a real worldmap into ultima, huh? *) Yep, that is really thing to get dreamed. Anyway if it possible to get it work perfectly, better to aknowledge that and make a public patch, isn't it? (looking at Sydius signature with evil smile) Although it is a difficult work, sadly... |

It was confirmed by the developers of Iris Client that changing the map size is possible in their client. I think we now should look into Iris client more. It's a 3D client and I guess it'd be great if more people supported the project. Back to map size - with Iris, we not only get a 3D client but also an option to make a map as big as we want. I'm personally considering to start building an Iris-Only shard. We just need a team of people who would petition both Sphere and Iris to make a patch that would define a new map size. (And ask sphere to make the map size as an option in sphere.ini) |

UOX3 already has support for optional map-sizes. *whistles innocently* |

As does RunUO. It's always mainly been a client limitation. |

RunUO? How does it? |

Post subject: | |
In RunUO, all you need to do is change the appropriate values in mapdefinitions.cs. |

i see... so, the thing that are required to be changed in client are unknown? |

Along time ago myself and some others tried to hexedit seperate values into the client for the maps. I ended up meeting with limited success on it, and I couldn't find anybody who knew more than I did specifically about using a hex editor, or a (dis)assembler to get it to work. I ended up succeeding in getting the map size to change, and the client to run, but it was stretched and it didn't turn out right at all. This had to do with some other values that needed to be incremented as well, although there was no certain way to find these values... So it just kind of died... ![]() But you can use an open source UO client, like UIris or uoclient from Wolfpack and probably edit the map sizes much easier that way. |

Well... Endor did it... I don't know how or why yet, but they did it. I'm downloading their modified client files right now to take a look at it. Man... This could mean big things... |

Where is my head at? I should have posted the link to it too. ftp://game4.dkm.cz/endor/endor_betafiles_7.rar Let me know if you see anything that stands out right away... I can't figure out what they changed though... grrr... frustrating. ![]() |

Sorry for Dredging up an older post. If you actually look at Endor map's size, and the statement, its worded very carefully. The client does not support a bigger map. They state thier map is 3 times the normal size. Which, when comparing to brittania, it is. Quite a catch really. Took me a while to figure it out. |

If they say their "map" is 3 times as large, they had better mean the cartography map or something; otherwise, they would be lying. Having three times the landmass, which is most likely what they mean, is not the same thing as having a map that is three times as big. If they mean "three times the land mass" but are saying "three times as big of a map" then they are, well, liars. Either way, it is deceptive. |

Yeah they mean they have 3 times the landmass to adventure on... I could claim this on some of my maps as well... Sosaria and Geryworld use almost 95% of the actual map space, leaving only 5% water which surounds the landmass. But they are not using a larger map size that I know of, just a custom map which has a larger landmass size, which in turn does make the world bigger in a sense. ![]() Carl Hamilton (Imprint) http://members.cox.net/darkshard/ |

Its a cool way to get experience points tho. Maybe raise your dex too. But you probably lose int. |

If it is not wet enough, it becomes more work than play, and can even become painful to do. I think it bothers girls more than guys, though, they are just more sensitive to that kind of thing. |
