Post subject:  General advice for newb map maker

I've read the very helpful tutorial and whatnot, but is there anything else that is important or good to know when making a map?

Like, how do I create mass trees on my map, and what is the quickest way to do world building?

Is there any useful tips that I might need to know?

Thanks!

The tutorial tells all, if you've read that then you know what 99% of us know.

YEs yes, I know about the tutorial already, but I was wondering if there are any specific techniques that certain people may use to do things easier or more efficiently or whatnot. I am just wondering if there are any methods that could speed up the process or if there is anything that may be helpful that isn't in the tutorial.

That depends on what your trying to do but a few basics are to record your macro's in Photoshop so you can do most things at a touch of the button.

Then you want to check your map before you run the static patcher so you can fix any details that are not correct. Perfect the basic map before you do anything else.

Once the map is "perfect" then start work on the cities. This is easy with Worldforge and RUNUO (if it is set up to melt or freeze statics ingame).

Draw your road, path and building foundations in Worldforge then go into the game and remove the unwanted statics to clean out the area for building.

You can also paint these items into your map from the start but it takes a great deal of practice to get used to the dimensions. This will save huge amounts of time and provide smooth edges off the bat. Doing it tile by tile is a real pain but allows you to be "exact". You can off course paint it and edit the tiles later to enlarge or shrink them but that sort of defeats the purpose.

Mass trees you edit how many trees and what type of trees in dragon /items/alpine you will see somehting like this

// Tuscany Pine
0007 1b7e 0000 0000 0000 0000

the first set of numbers sets the frequency of the spawn when the map is being created. Raise or lower this number to increase or decrease your trees

Step by step

change number
use dragon to create map
replace world, static. statix files in UO
log on walk around do oyu like what you see? If so happy days if not wash rinse and repeat
