Hey, I was just wondering, is there any better way to make roads for the cities? I mean, the better way would be with dragon but I'd like to put the roads AFTER I made the cities, that way I could know where exactly to make the roads... and making roads in game isn't really realistic... If anyone knows how I could solve this problem, tell me! Thanks! |

I personally use worldforge for this method. I find it better than staticing roads everywhere. all you need is to well A: learn how to use WF which is fairly easy with practice( trust me Im computer stupid and have gotten pretty good at it in no time) 2: take the time to "pinpoint" beginning and ending spots where you want to go. and D: use the map edit tools with the statics on so you can see your already built houses. ![]() |

Actually you should place the roads before the cities then touch up the road areas around the buildings or corners. This will save you about 10000000000 hours of doing it manually with WF unless you dont really care if the edges of the roads blend with the surrounding terrain. Personally I make the maps in Photoshop to include the roads between towns and the major streets in the towns, you can outline the foundations of the various buildings as well so you can see how it all blends together. Compile the map with Dragon then place statics / touch up the city areas, this is the easiest method that I have found for making a map. Of course if your not used to using Photoshop and Dragon it will seem a little complicated at first. The basic laws/rules of map making with dragon can be found in the forums here and all are pretty good advice. Once you master the basics you can crank out a 90% completed map (without statics of course) on the first try. With Photoshop macro's and basic templates they will allow you to generate a basic but useable map in under 6 hours. Remember....Practice makes perfect! Dev |

The problem with photoshop is that you can't evaluate your cities... well , I'll try with World forge, I did the basic roads between differents cities and places, but I'll do the roads of the town with WF ... thx |

There do exist "transition tools" that can take care of the road/forest, road/grass, road/whatever-transitions after you do the road in WF. *shrug* |

plan your cities in photoshop and lay foundations w/ appropriate tiles. for example, in britania, the foundations are laid w/ stone... so do the same on your map. then, use whatever road tile you want inbetween. it'll take a few tries to get it right, but in the end it'll kickass. |

Am I the only one who doesn't build the towns after a layout, but instead lay out the towns as I build them? ![]() |

100% self constructed here too. 1.Have to set a story for the shard. 2.Have to set the theme for the town(s) Towns should fit the story line. The people in the towns should fit the story as well along with any critters. Nothing like seeing a walrus in the jungle and a panther in the arctic.... Dev |
