Post subject:  Malas Statics - to clear!

Hi, before anybody replies saying "do some search before posting" I want to say that I did that with no success.

The point is that I want to remove statics from Malas.

WorldForge 6.5 for Maps 2 and 3 doesn't work. Why? Not a clue. The path boxes simply don't turn green (and the path is correct!).

I can't find any other program for this purpose, although I did download the MulTool for statics, but it seems that it only works for statics0.mul.

So, I want to ask you if anybody knows how to:
a) - Make WF cooperate ( :P ).
b) - Remove statics from Malas with any other program.

By the way, I would also like to know th statics properties. For instance, the color of statics (as statics in Malas DO have color! :) ).

Thanks in advance! :D

Searching is a fine art that requires specific generalizations....

Try doing a search for "Static.mul", I came up with 15 pages of post.

I also came up with several results when searching "statics2.mul", but none had the answer I was looking for.

If you want to remove all of the statics, just delete the files and make new, empty ones (just make a new text file and rename it to the appropriate file name). If you just want to clear some, I think Ryandor made a special version of WorldForge for that, or you might try Punt?s version.

Failing both of those options, you could probably do some tricky thing with UO Copy, or write your own utility if you know basic programming.

As for color ? yes, that is a property which is stored in the static file. staticsX.mul contains X offset (1 byte), Y offset (1 byte), Z offset (1 byte), item ID (2 bytes), and color (2 bytes). I am not sure which programs support color, though.

Thanks Sydius for the statics info! :)

I'm afraid I didn't explain myself correctly about the Malas statics. I don't want to clear all of the statics, just some, and I do want to add a lot more. So I need a program to clear some areas of the statics3.mul and staidx3.mul and add others to them.

Any help will be appreciated! :)

Thats a whole different ball game.

You can set RUNUO up to allow you to "melt" or "freeze" small sections or the entire map. For directions on how to set it up you can find the answer in the RUNUO help section of this site or the RUNUO forums proper.

And if I don't have RunUO?
Isn't there any program for this?

Have you tried Ryandor's version of WF, or Punt's? I think they support the other maps.

If your trying to edit a huge area then I would recommend WF, Ryandor (as Syd pointed out) created one that will do the other maps but I'm not sure about Punts newest WF.

Most people don't edit their maps with the same programs they use to run them on their servers with so you can always edit small areas with RUNUO then simply switch over to your server software to play on the changes.

RUNUO is good for editing on the fly once you get your client files set up. I think POL is able to do the same thing as well.

Worldforge handles all facets, and dif files (or not) as well.

I've downloaded WF 6.5 from the Downloads section of Ryandor's site. The problem I have is, as I've said before, "The path boxes simply don't turn green (and the path is correct!)."

If anyone knows how to fix this, please notify. Thanks!

I see now in your original post that you did indeed say that you were attempting this with Ryandor?s WF. I am not certain as to why it would not accept the paths you specify? mind sharing what those paths are?

Try putting them in a root, such as ?C:\?, and see if that works. If it does, then it is probably a problem with WF and some weird handling of file paths.

Sorry for all the confusion!

There are about 5.5 million versions of WF, and Punt?s version (why he chose the same name, I do not know). Confuses things a bit. :-)

Post subject:  Why...

To answer the question, it was a tribute to Ridcully, the author of Worldforge.

When I started Worldforge, the older version was stagnant (abaddonware comes to mind), although a few people occassionally tweaked it. I felt the version I was working on reflected where WorldForge would/should be had it continued. So I contacted Ridcully, told him what I was doing, as well as an early version, and asked if he had objections if I named it Worldforge (as a tribute) to his early work. He responded positively.

That is how my version came to have the WorldForge title. Good or bad, just stating the history of events.

Not bad, just confusing.

I still don't know why the paths don't turn green.

For you to know: the WF for Malas, says in the white box add paths for staidx3.mul, but in the red boxes at the botton, it says "staidx2.mul" and "statics2.mul"!

Oh, I think there are two versions of Ryandor?s WF ? one for each map? see if there is another one bundled in the same zip. I am basing this statement off a foggy memory, BTW. :)

Aha!

A lesson in why you should read the readme:

Quote:
Ryandor (ryandor@ryandor.com)
Oct 14, 2003

WF4map2.exe (version 6.5.1) for editing map2.mul
WF4map3.exe (version 6.5.2) for editing map3.mul

Statics melt and freeze not working at this time.
No other functional changes at this time.

Support files from WorldForge 6.4 required.

Try Punt's.

I read the README, but only saw the "Statics Melt doesn't work". LOL! :P

Could you please put the link for Punt's version? :P

Please don't be offended if this is a stupid question. But, when you type in your path, do you put the file name at the end as well? For example:

c:\whatever\whatever\staidx2.mul

It's been a while, but I seem to remember you have to put the file name in the path, too. If you did that and it still doesn't work, I don't have a clue. :/

We already figured it out ? Ryandor?s WorldForge does not freeze or melt statics for the new maps, and that is why the boxes do not turn green when you enter the newer file names.

Well, now it's a matter of time for Punt to log in and send me his program link! :P

Punt, where are you? :P

EDIT: I was thinking if changing the name of statics3 to statics0 and using common WF would work. What do you think? :)

That will not work. While they are the same format, they are not the same size ? staidx_.mul must have the same number of entries as there are blocks in the map, or it will crash the client eventually and cause items to be in the wrong places (more noticeably as you go further south/west). Statics_.mul does not need to contain an entry for each block, but any block listed as existing and having items in staidx_.mul must be represented in statics_.mul, or else, you will, again, get a crash.

So nope, will not work.

Uh! :( Well, I'll wait for Punt to appear and send the link for his WF.

Another thing, when using common original old-fashinoed (LOL!) WF for statics0, some buttons don't appear pressable (as Fill/Clear), just "WF Diff" does. And I don't have any items.wsc (because I'm not planing to freeze anything :P), but if I don't put that not even "GetStaticsIndex" button turns available!. So the question is, how do I get all buttons available (sorry, it's been a while since I ued WF for the last time :P).
