The PhotoShop work on my custom map is finally done (well at least almost done ^^ ) and now I am writing and testing my itemscripts.

One particular problem i have is that the random placement of items sometimes ignores my coastline/mountain & hill edges, placing trees etc. into the water/rock/hillside.

Is there anyway i can prevent that? It might be a pain in the a... clearing those items later with some static item tool.

If you are using Forest right up to the water line (for instance) Dragon does not understand that you might want it to not place that close to water. So, a common fix to this is to paint a couple pixles of grass between the water and forest to seperate them. That will help, and will still look great.

Thats what i did with forest/water, jungle/water, desert/water ...etc.

Problem is snow/water and mountains/hills in snow landscapes. I tried painting some grass between them, but it looks crappy. I will try dirt or something similar that matches with snow. Thx a lot for the tip!

I had the same problem, make sure that you go back and look closely at your transitions w/ photoshop and see if there are any rogue pixels in there (ones that are there but shouldn't be). That should clear it up :D

The problem is the way the the alpine itemscript works. Ryandor's mod to the script is great, creating those random groups of trees, but chances are that Dragon will place a starting position very close to an edge thus adding the following items into terrain, where no items should be placed. Right now all i can do is minimize the errors, using dirt tiles and cleaning the rest with some static tool. I like the itemscript too much for not using it because of that limitation. ;)

what I have done is create a second small group in Dragon scripts for snow (or whatever) that will not place any items, but does transition with others. maybe just a 2 or 3 colors of the pallete even. use those for your coast line.. 2-3 pixles between the real snow and water.

Sounds great! I am still new to all the scripts, but I think i understand what you mean. I have to read more about group.txt and how to define/change the color in the palette. Thx for the tip :)
