Hi, I've a question. How do I freeze my worldfile (Items.txt I guess?) in POL? From all of the info I can find on this board (yes, I searched for a while before posting) it seems that I have to build my cities in Sphere or something then freeze it in worldforge... Can this somehow be done in POL? I have my map all finished in dragon, trees and all. Is there a utility of some sort? Or do I have do download sphere? :?
Thanks.

Most people use WorldForge (WF) to do their item freezing for cities and such. WF is a very old map-editor (one of the originals) that has the ability to freeze/melt items from static files.

Due to the age of WF, when it was made, the most popular emulator was UOX, and so the author of WF decided to use the UOX file format for reading/writing items to be frozen/melted. It just so happens that Sphere has the ability to export to this format (I believe ? I?ve never done this). That?s why you see the many references to using Sphere for world building, as using UOX is usually too cumbersome and prone to crashing for that purpose.

WF eventually went open-source, though, and since then, a variety of versions have been released by different authors, including one that supports POL. The POL version is particularly nice, in fact, and one of my favorite versions because it makes it (IMO) easier to melt and freeze items, and even comes with scripts that allow you to do so from within the game!

I would give you a link to the POL version, but unfortunately I don?t know where it is available and I?m not in front of my home computer at the moment. I got it from some helpful person on these forums, however, so try searching for ?POL? and ?WorldForge? here.
