Hi, I have 2 tutorials from this site and I think they are very good, but there some techniques that I have seen in some maps (Ryandor's and some others') that are not included in those tutorials. For example, a "sparkles" technique for unstable ground ( Z level changes ).
Any ideas? Perhaps from Ryandor himself? :P

Could you give a reference (screenshot or message) where you saw this? I'll do my best to describe how I did it.

Unfortunately, I can't provide any screenshot because my http is down (temporarily, I hope :( ). The only reference I can give is this: the "sparkles" effect I was talking about is in the "example.bmp" in the Addon folder of Dragon Mod9 (it's not "dragon.bmp"). This effect is like sparkles of a high Z level in a low Z level zone, I mean high Z tiles in a low Z tiles area. Sorry if it isn't very clear, but I don't know how to describe.
Do you have a MSN Messenger dir? That would make the conversation more fluid and I could send you the images.

Sounds like you are describing this:
Image

It's using just a random shaped brush to create these areas using a higher z level. That's all there really is too it.

Let me know if this is what you mean. And by all means experiment with brushes and such. You never know what you'll come up with.

Yes, I meant that. I would like to know a little bit more of those techniques and random brushes.
And another thing: when you reach the last Z level of mountains, how do you do that sparkle effect there? Is that done with the "Noise" effect in photoshop?
Any chance of geting your MSN to pass images or tutorials? :(

this sparkle on top of mountains (i use it for some other stuff, too) is easy to create by chosing the lower terrain-color as foreground-, the higher terrain-color as background- (or vice versa. try it) switch to the fill tool, set this opacity or how the hell it's called in englisch to a number between 20 and 80 and fill the selected area with that.

yea use different brushes but donnot use general effects in photoshop like blur etc etc, because they change the colors and then your map will come out all jumbled

The brushes come included with the Dragon download from this website. They are in the addons folder. You have to load them first while using Adobe.

If you need more help let us know.

I don't know about older versions of Adobe Photoshop. But if your using adobe photoshop cs, then this will help.

Click on the paint brush tool to get the paintbrush tool veiw across the top. Click on the brush size dropdown box and you will get a dropdown with all preset brush sizes and shapes that come standard with photoshop.

There will be a cirlce with an arrow point to the right in it. Click on this. It's in the upper right hand corner of the drop down box. Select the "load brushes" option. You will get a dialog where you can specify the file for the brushes... it defaults in the photoshop folder in program files.

Browse to the addon folder in your directory where dragon is placed. The brushes will be the only file you see in there. I beleive it is called map-brushes or something similair to that.

Hope this helps.

Don't quite trying! It's hard at first but you can do it.

Post if you need any more help.
