Ive noticed weird sinkholes in the map. I have only personally fallen in 1 hole. When i look at them they look under the ground and they are stuck when i walk over it it is normal to me

i have a url of a screenie someone took i hope you dont need to be a member.

Now before anyone asks the Z i stand at is 0 the surrounding is 0 yet he sinks

When i turn of Worldforge, its all 0's all around and including that square.

someone hopefully can help with this. thanks

just a few thoughts..

*What EMU are you using? And the version number?

*Are you all running the exact same version of the map in your clients as your server is running?

*If you reboot your whole PC do you still fall into the hole at the same tile?

*Have you made any custom ground tiles or changed any tile settings?

Its hard to say what the problem is without a bit more info..

The client is obviously using the correct map files, so I would wager that it?s just a matter of the server NOT using the correct map files. If you aren?t sure, try logging in under a player account (not a player under and admin or gm account) ? make a new account and log in as a new character, and see if you can ?fall into? the same holes as everybody else. If you can, then it is likely that the server is using the wrong files.

If the player who is stuck in the hole sees himself as being stuck, then he is using the right map files (otherwise he would see the original map instead).

Other possibilities include altered art/tile files which have changed the way the server or client perceive those specific tiles? or it could be some weird fluke in the server code itself.

I know from experience that some UOX derivatives (at least older ones) can full victim to a very similar bug as a result of an incorrect height checking function. It?s not hard to track down and fix, however, if you know a little C.

When updating the map files I save them and zip them from the updated worldforge files from my UO folder. If there is another map copy I am unaware of it. Emu i would guess that means POL 095

That particular screen shot was sent by a player with the newest map available.

I dunno might be a fluke but its in several areas in the map I have not altered since getting this map,

Odds are the problem is the POL server is referencing the wrong map.

When you're playing UO the server and the client both kind of help each other keep track of the z level your character is at. I can't explain it to you more specifically because I don't know myself how exactly they do it, but they do.

In order for your server to be able to monitor your z level it must have a working copy of the map to refrence. If it is refrencing the original OSI map (or any other custom maps you maby tried out?) then when the server reads that map and says you must drop, the client will drop you.

I've had the same problem with servers and clients referencing two seperate maps, some combinations cause more problems than others.

To fix it you need to find where POL expects your custom map files to be. Replace whatever is there with your custom map files and then restart the server and the client. It should be fixed.

If this doesn't help it's another problem. Let us know and we can work from there.

I have physically moved the server out to another location while my lines are being checked. I had a spell of about the last 2 weeks ive dropped connect over 100 times literally

I will Double check the files yet again when i receive it back but to the best of my knowledge. No other map is even loaded onto the server, in a file folder or elsewhere, UNLESS its referring to the file somehow in the program(not unpacked for usage nor installed). I have used and updated the map, the places in question have not been edited. but like i say allow me time to check it once i receive the server back. Thanks

it appears i had a folder in the UO folder that had a map as well. Odd how it wanted to reference that map but i guess it did. Players have reported sinkholes are now gone. Thanks for the tips and suggestions.
