Post subject:  Trouble with Photoshop

This is RELATED to my map making, but its a problem with photoshop cs...so I figured this would be as close as i could get to the right place to post. :? Ive been working on a map for a while now, its all coming out very nicely, but all of a sudden, something changed. In my picture itself, under the layer view window, it says index right next to the thumbnail. I cant use brushes, i can only make a selection, cut it, copy, it, move it, or use the pencil tool, and fill in selections with the paint bucket tool. I REALLY need brushes for my map making, and i dont know why the layer is suddenly locked, anyone have any idea how i can fix this? my map is only about 25% done and will stay that way until i can get the brushes to work on it again. Hmmm...thanks for any input

Post subject:  I'm not sure

But for me it sounds like you "transformed" your map from RGB to index. I have a German version of Photoshop, therfore I'm not sure with the translations.

You can change back into RGB, where you can use brushes and everything, but you have lost your layers then.

Do you have an old version of your map? With the different layers? If not, unlucky you...

If you want to change, just go to picture(if thats the right translation...)|modus|rgb in the toolbox on the top of the screen.

You need to transform your map into an indexed bmp at the end, before you run dragon on it. but als long as it's not finished you should use rgb-mode with the dragon colortable as the aco-file (hope that's the right file suffix)

Well, I worked with the entire picture using indexed color, but you are right, when i changed it to RGB I could use brushes and everything, also, i never used layers, maybe I should start doing that for quick and easy fixes...thanks for the reply
