Post subject:  Unable to open map

I downloaded and exchanged the files in my UO directory whith a map that I had previously gotten to work, about a year ago. I replaced the corresponding files, and double checked that I exchanged the right files, and I get an error "cannot open file 'map0.mul' from either HD or CD" Kinda confused as I have gotten this to work before, but now it won't. Whats going on?

thanks

Have you checked your file path in DataPath.cs to make sure it is pointed to the correct directory?

i.e.,

private const string CustomPath = @"C:\My Mul Files";

If your using Windows XP, and have a default install on the OS, thats probly your problem. XP has a 'read only' attribute to all folders and files within the Program Files directory, so if you remove a file, and replace it as you did with the map0.mul, it basicly doesnt allow it. It acts as if the files just missing, even though its right there.

Try a simple approach, and move the Ultima Online folder out of the Program Files directory... like, drop it on your desktop. Change the files while its out there, and then move it back into the Program Files directory.

You might want to try this after a fresh reboot of your system.

I had initially considered that a possible point of affliction, so I installed in in C: instead of Program Files, but the problem persisted. I decided to give your recommendation a shot anyways by placing my UO directory on the Desktop, and then insterting the files, and it worked without a problem

Now the guard zones remain, I'm guessing this has something to do with the RunUO scripts, so i'll just have to go and change those.

Thanks a ton for the help
