Post subject: | What files do I need to alter? |
Ok, I've been huntin several forums today to find the answer to this, and I might just be lookin too hard...I don't know... The question I have is this, I have a custom map for the shard, I'm using sphere .55i, with client 2.03. It goes well, but when it comes to logging into the shard, it just freezes...I think this is probably something stupid that I just over-looked, or perhaps I have to alter another file that I haven't... If someone can help, I would appreciate it. |

Could be an awful lot of things... Where exactly does it freeze? Before/after you enter your username/pass, before/after you pick a character, before after you actually login? What's the last thing you see? Does the console show you connecting at all, if so what's it say? What are you using in login.cfg? Are you behind a router? Can you log in to another shard with the same muls that you've got now? Could you log in to this same shard with all the same settings before editing any mul files? |

I can choose my server, create character, and then it goes to the entering britania screen and freezes... Thanks again. |

What's the last thing you see? [added: do you have a gray screen?] Does the console show you connecting at all, if so what's it say? [edit: i know it shows you, what's it say?] Can you log in to another shard with the same muls that you've got now? Could you log in to this same shard with all the same settings before editing any mul files? |

ok, I get the gray screen with the 'Entering Brittainia' box in the center. During this time, my server console reads Setup-Start-'(account name)', char-"(character name) then it just freezes. does this help at all? Hope so...and thanx again... |

right, forgot your other questions. As the MUL's are right now, I dunno, but I could before the editting. I also thought perhaps that they where my problem, so I redid them with dragon and sp, no progress. If I put in the normal MUL's from UO, it works properly. I have followed every instruction to the letter, I'm using photoshop to do the map, then dragon-mod9 to assign it and SP to freeze it. This leads me to believe, as I said, that I need to alter some other file that I have over-looked. Hope this helps. |

humm, lol That's not an answer I was hoping to see :p Well, maybe some trial and error can find the problem. Replace all the muls with default OSI/UO muls, except map0.mul. If it still works, replace one of the statics files, if it still works, replace the other.... etc etc. Just do them one by one to see which one is the culprit. There really isn't any additional file you need to edit. You make the map with dragon, you do the statics with dragonsp, and you toss it all in the UO folder. 9 times out of 10 an actual gray colored screen after "Entering Britannia" is an older (like 1.26.4) client that regular 55i can't handle. You said 2.0.3 already, but it'd be a good idea just to double check that you didn't replace the older client while replacing mul files. If you can narrow it down to a specific mul, maybe I/we can help some more, sorry this wasn't more informative :/ Also... what's the exact size on your map0.mul according to windows? |

I was gonna say it sounds more likely a Sphere problem than the muls but I figured I would wait til you (Rose) replied. I seem to remember some login problems with an off the shelf 55i. What operating system are you using Chance? And have you checked your login.cfg and sphere.ini? It really sounds like an encryption problem though if that is all the console is displaying. Sorry I don't have better details, but I stopped using Sphere months ago. |

normally a badly configured router or sphere.ini (or both), would show up after logging in but before picking a character bad login.cfg won't even get past logging in name too long in sphere.ini (for the shard) will cause this behaviour, but not just sometimes it'll do it all the time... so if osi muls work it's not that older clients will cause this... but not just sometimes (see above) too new clients will spit all sorts of errors at the console.... but not just sometimes (see above) being stuck (black holed) will cause this... but not just sometimes (see above) what mul files have you edited? is it only map and statics? |

If you get the problem that some players can't log in (and others can) try teleporting the body of that person away from the place where he's logging in. I've had that problem on sphere befoire, and this should fix it. As well as giving the person another body. Or is it ONLY for new players? Because then you probably have another problem. Maybe a too high item count in the area? |

That is exactly what I was trying to remember Armada. It was somewhere on the fringes of my mind. If you go and find yourself in the save file and change your coordinates you should be able to login somewhere else. |

That's what I meant by blackholed ![]() |

I have no idea what causes the blackhole. Might be due to muls though. |

Usually the biggest culprit for blackholes is too many items in 1 place, there are some others I think, but Rose knows Sphere better than I do. I had stumbled across something a few months ago, but like a lot of things, I thought it was interesting but didn't bother to make a note, and my memory is getting worse every year it seems (but maybe I just don't remember, yuk yuk). |

I think it might also be due to people seeing weird colors, but yet again, Im not sure. Though it's hard to believe mapfiles would do this :p |
