Post subject:  Help with custom maps....

This is driving me crazy. Ive at least 5 maps, and not one of them work. I dont know what Im doing wrong. I use the colors as they appear exactly on both the dragon color chart and the online guide on this site, and Ive made maps in both paint and photoshop. I run them through dragon (which seldomly works anyway, it just freezes 4 second into the creation) but when It does work I put the files in my UO folder and play the game and the same thing happens everytime. All of the water is grass, the lava is farming soil, my moutains are higher elevation grass, etc. Ive made and remade over and over and I keep comming back to this. Can anyone help me?

Are you running 3d version of ultima online? If so the tile ID's have changed therefore it's not a problem with Dragon, it's a problem with the client. It's really a sticky situation, because in order to fix this problem you have to go hunt down every tile ID that Dragon is improperly placing for the 3d client, then find the correct tile ID and swap those numbers in the script. Someone may have already done this and posted it somewhere I'm not sure.

Okay, are you making your color format for the image indexed color?
Remember you have to make the image indexed and load the colortable provided in the addon folder.

Otherwise your colors are going to save as a different idx value which will change the tile in Dragon no matter what color you use.

The idx value of where the color is in the colortable is what's important. Not the color itself. You could change every color in the colortable and then paint with it and get the same thing... I wouldn't recommend it because it would be easy to forget what did what (especially if you're new to all this) but it is possible.

Make sure you go to Image>Mode>Indexed to set the color of the image to indexed. Then go Image>Mode>Colortable, and select the colortable in the Addon folder of Dragon.

Make sure you save as an 8bit .bmp and try running it again. I'll bet you get different results this time.

Oh and BTW: Just because Dragon looks froze up (screen looks froze, and says Not Responding in task manager) doesn't mean that it is. Just let it run for the next 20 minutes or so. Eventually you'll see the start button become available again. That's because Dragon just has a problem with it's GUI (graphical user interface) updating sometimes.
